Plastic Castings

Does anyone of youall have any way to warm up the plastic Ccastings during their cure? I did mine in the basement and it is real cold down here so it too forever to set (i.e. get hard) and they still aren’t set up! I have thought of a box with some insulation and maybe a 40 watt light bulb to get the temperature up to maybe 70 or more.

Any ideas?

I use a cheap warming plate.

Pre-heat molds in oven @150 or nuke in micro for one minute. this is per Aluminite instructions, works well.

At the marina, we use an old ice chest set up on end like a little refrigerator with a couple of holes drilled in it. One for the wire of a 100 watt light bulb and another for a probe thermometer to preheat resin and hardener before mixing or even pumping. Simple, comes pre-insulated and it was something someone was throwing away.

Another great idea to put in “Tools and Tips”

I found a small room heater and use it in the little bath which is downstairs. It works just fine although I like some of your ideas. Also need to make another mould or two to speed up the process.

E. Paul, what mold making materials are you using? I have an art supply joint by the house that sells the Aluminite at 2/3 the cost of buying it from the manufact. Been making windows and doors and looks like my brother might want some retaining walls and such…
