During the oil boom in the 50’s, the D&RGW moved a lot of pipe over the narrow gauge line through Chama to Farmington. Since the lengths of pipe were longer than a standard freight car, they simple cut the ends out of gons and let the pipe hang out each end with a flat car as a spacer between them.
