Pinstriping

I’m in the middle of painting an undecorated USA Trains 44 tonner to look like this:

" img> It’s a bit hard to see in this picture , but the colors are black and gray with white trim and one red stripe This is better

I thought I would do the road name, number and the white stripes on the front and back with decals from stan cedarleaf. Or maybe one of Del Taparro’s vinyl graphics But the white and red pinstripe that runs between the gray and the black–any suggestions on doing that? I thought of using that Pactra pinstripe tape they sell at hobby stores, but it doesn’t stick that well to molded detail. In the past I’ve tried pinstriping and almost invariably had some bleed through using blue masking tape. I don’t have an airbrush rig Suggestions welcome, and thank you

Bring it over here and I’ll let you use my airbrush…

Actually, I’d probably paint the big white stripes and get decals for the white and red pinstripe.

IS that the stuff they have avalible at those RC car type shops? I’ve used it in the past to good effect on several different projects…

Check any hobby shop that carries RC cars. Lots of rolls of pinstriping.

Go to a good art supply store and ask for Chart-pak vinyl tape. It comes in varying widths down to 1/64" in many colors, red being one of them. More on a roll than you’ll ever use in a lifetime, but also inexpensive.

The pinstriping they use for painting cars holds up well and sticks much better than most of the other tapes as it’s made for outdoors through rain and weather. An auto supply that has materials for body work would probably carry it. Also the type used for model airplanes is good. It needs to be fuel resistant because of the spatter from the engines.
