Piko

I think I’m buying my first Piko product this week – their Mogul.

Any thoughts on Piko products? I figure it’s time to move away from LGB!

I have only used there track. I have nine wide width switches on my indoor layout and there superb. I can run the littlest critters to the big diesels with no stall or derail programs. I do run track power.

I have a Piko DEGW Mogul.,It is a nice running engine,My only complaint is that the smoke unit is a bit weak compared to my LGB Mogul,My engine is the one without sound ,It is a good buy for the 181.00 I paid for it.

I have a Piko boxcar.

But I dont have any of their locomotives.

You reminded me. I have one of those boxcars!

I won it at a raffle at our club dinner. Since I run only steam I use it for a conversion car with hook and loop and Kadees.

It runs fine.

I’m interested in PIKO too. I have had my eye on their 0-6-0 saddle tanker for a time.

I believe they make a solid product from what I have read.

Keep us posted Doug.

I will. It’s going to get a lot of use because it will be running on my layout and on the club layout a couple times a month. Richard mentioned the smoke unit being weak but I never use the ones in the other engines!

I’ve got a Piko starter set for under my tree. (0-6-0 plus hopper and caboose) It’s a pretty durable thing–standing up to the torture of my kids over the past 4 or 5 years (including my then-7-year-old niece who decided the caboose was ride-on).

I reviewed their DCC system that’s in their mogul, and it was a pretty robust thing, too.

Only thing–on the 0-6-0, they painted the wheel treads; the only power pick-up was via the skates. Eventually the paint wears off.

Later,

K

The best thing about PIKO? Good value.

I have 3 saddletankers, what little I have used them so far so good, I think the Mogul has a better drive brick.

Doug I really like my 2-6-0. It has a really nice sound unit and is quite heavy despite its small size.

I am really glad so many like Piko.

My only concern is whether it’s going to look odd pulling LGB cars?

Depends what kind of LGB cars.

They are mostly "wood-sided boxcars.

I have sold about a dozen of those moguls to different people and had no complaints

That’s really neat! I too think Piko is doing well. I’ve really enjoyed reading the comments.

I have four Piko locomotives. All modern Taurus engines. I have nothing but the highest regard for German made products and Piko does not disappoint its customers. I don’t have any steam engines, but from what I have heard and seen, Piko Steam era engines are well received.

LGB and Piko both have similar reputations. Personally, I like both of them allot.

I just acquired a fairly new Amtrak Genesis Locomotive by LGB and it is really first rate. Is it better then my Piko Taurus loco’s. Perhaps. Perhaps not, but one thing is for sure, Piko makes some really cool products. Just my .02

I like what you did there to that loco Boomer.

I think I’m missing something here. I bought a used PIKO saddle tanker from a starter set and tried it out the other day and I wasn’t impressed. I removed the paint from the pickup wheels which helped the power pickup. Just for fun I backed it into a siding which held 6 cars and the loco spun its wheels trying to pull them on level track?
I think PIKO might be like Bachmann where they have starter set engines then they have their Spectrum line.
The 0-6-0 saddle tank is a cool looking engine maybe I can add a bit of weight to it to help.

Well I bought the new 2 bay C&NW hopper at the convention in Tampa. Leaves a little bit to be desired. Would have been nice if it would have had a brake wheel on the end of the car. Yep Plastic wheels. easy fix tho. Later RJD

I have three of the Piko 0-6-0 engines…they are very strong runners.

Did this conversion about four years ago.
