I have an interest in the Piko standard gauge German cars (gondola and tarpaulin load flatcar). Local price is $159.00 Aud plus say $10.00 to ship to me. The price from the American Piko distributor is $260.00 Aud. Cost of shipping would bring the cost of the car to $344.00 Aud, more than twice the local price.
Someone Stateside is determined to keep the price of these cars high.

I talked to a local seller who used to be big in the LGB sales, he’s said he’s thinking not going to order any more Piko sets due to “quality and price” issues, can’t speak to any quality issues as I dont own one, but as for price?, well lets just say theres a very good reason I decided to converting my Oh-No-0-6-0-Bug-Mauler switcher into a tank engine
