Piko Engine Noises?

Hey guys, I need some help…

Bout 2 years ago I bought a new Piko 0-6-0, had smoke, DCC, sound and Pikos new motor block added to it from a reputable company. I was in the process of moving at the time and just brought it out to test out the layout. First they did not put the boiler on correctly, you can see a big gap on the side, but the worst part is, I get this clicking noise in reverse and on curves… R1 and R3… towards the end of the video, I cut the sound so you can hear it better. I have to take it apart to fix the gap, so I may have to dig deeper, I just hope someone can give me suggestions on what to look for.

Thanks…

Clicking is often the rod gear hitting itself as it turns, once you get the boiler on right, run it on it’s back with wheels up and see if you get clicking noinse, then if you do, see if it happens at same rotation of wheels and you should be able to see if something is hitting every revolution.

Greg, again not giving you a hard time… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif). I’ll have to spend a day off on it, just frustrated I didn’t check it out more thoroughly when I got it. Put my trust in a business that was suppose to be reputable. Hopefully it’ll be an easy fix. Plus I notice the engine does not sit level on the track. It wobbles…

Thanks,

Steve

The wobbling is concerning. When running on it’s back, if there is a wheel out of true or bent axle it should be easy to see.

By the way, the crossing gate Todd showed you was made by a member of our club. His wife is on the board of directors as am I.

When I see her again I will inquire as to any availability of parts, but I think they closed the business in 2010.

Thanks Greg for all the help…

I would love to have those crossing signals they are exactly what I’m looking. Wish they would produce them again since we are limited in crossing signals.

I’m trying not to worry about the 0-6-0… I’ll get it fixed somehow. I have a feeling either they stuffed the DCC decoder in there and it didn’t fit properly, or they messed up the new motor block…

Thanks again for everything.

Steve

I have seen axles shift when running in opposite directions and the screw/pin holding the side rods on will hit something. Usually only occurs in one direction.

LGB rivits loosen overtime and have this issue so I replace the thick headed hex screws with thin ones (LGB saw this and changed the screws on some models).

I’m going to try and take a look at it tomorrow and see what I can come up with. The place where I bought it from is aware of the issues but they didn’t address that one… would that have anything to do with a wobbly engine as well.
