I used 1/8" wide scribed siding from Evergreen plastics for the bands on my water tanks. Just run a knife down the scribing and voila!
Yesterday I painted the car, it was 15 degrees warmer!
Dat drat, consarn dirty rotten rackafritz! I put the one finished vat in the frame and when I tried to put the top piece on, the vat was too tall! So I had to cut down the 2 sided vats and all the coffee stirrers for the other 2 vats. Here they are settin’ in the car while the glue dries.

I also found out that Elmer’s Wood Glue holds the wooden staves together, but it don’t hold them to the plastic ice tea containers! Sheesh!
I’ve got 3 more lids to make, and decaling.
When I bought the car, it came with a coal load. It only fits the Delton Coal Hopper. It is Styrofoam and looks like the coal load is formed on top.

Anyone interested in making me an offer? Somebody out there must need one.

I used some contact cement in a tube. It’s downstairs so I don’t have the name handy. It’s real good for gluin’ yur fingers together!
So I go down today to work on the pickle car, and I know the decals are old so I want to put a light clear coat on top so they don’t come apart. I have looked all over and can’t find the decals. The gremlins have moved them. I mean I only talking about a 6x8 foot area. Nope, all day I can’t find it. So I decide to work on the last of the vat covers.
The glue clearly states to work in a well ventilated area. Ha! I’m doing fine. It’s not like I’m seeing things:

And I still can’t find the #@*% decals!
Did you look inside the vats? Interesting re-purpose of one of my favorite cars.
While I was gone yesterday to a plaque dedication of the Camden & Amboy RR, Rooster must have snuck in and returned my decals!
I have time to work today and get ready for our Holiday Show in 2 weeks. Hmmm, maybe I should post that under Events. Later.
……
Another valuable lesson. The paint was a dull finish and I used flat finish on the decals. DON’T DO THAT!
It looked like blocks of grey on the car. On the second side I resprayed with gloss and the decals with gloss. It came out much better. Now I have to figure how to fix the first attempt. Just spraying with gloss over applied decals didn’t work. I have to finish by Saturday for the Holiday Train Show.
Well, because I now have IE11 on all computers at home, I can’t post, so you won’t see the completed Pickle Car and pix of this weekend’s show until I’m back to work next week. Sorry.
Gotta love ‘windblows’
The Pickle Car is finished!

I put Bachmann couplers and metal wheels on it.
So I took it to the Holiday Show Fundraiser this weekend. Notice the sign behind it that my wife bought for me:
Wonderful Job, Lou…
Lou,
I want one of your wife’s signs! That is hilarious, and so so true.
I may have to copy that so I can put that up at the club layout.

Why do I have words and no pictures from my Freight Shed?
You have pictures. You need to use the Insert/edit image button
