Looks great with the groundcover filling in. I’ve had limited success with most of the usual recommended plants, mostly due to full shade. I really like the overhead wire and catenary setup, but I decided not to use it on my layout, primarily due to the pack of dogs across the street that like to visit. Fortunately, they’re pretty good about using the pathways.

The shot of the passenger cars came out really nice.

Very nice what is the ground cover you use?

What a glorious summer, that 4ºC the one morning was a fluke. Crumb, it’s been hot and sunny ever since. Today’s progress

First stringer of the ladder just about completed, but a lot of catch-up still in the works. Different parts get worked on when the shade moves to that area. Starting at 07:00 and taking it from there. :open_mouth:

The green and white T-post is the center of the large return curve, it was a lot taller before I started filling and the mountain will cover all of it once I’m done carting and shovelling; placing more rock and whatever else needs to be done. Guy delivered 4 more yards of material this morning

asked to have a look at the project.  Construction is moving right along.

Shawn we went to a local herb festival for a couple of years buying some of every thyme available .
We have been very pleased with the low ground cover thymes .
This year , with all of the excess rain , has been the biggest / most growth year ever .
Every year it is different , the plants move around the layout , and things change .
We really prefer the more scale sized plants and leaves if possible .

HJ , I see a LOT of work in your photos , whew !

Thank you! The theme song for the past few weeks has been: I’ve been working on the railroad!

We are buying thyme wherever and whenever we come across the nice varieties, some have very, very nice flowers, too.

Great pics, guys!

Hans, nice progress!

Looking good. I have been doing the same with the thyme. So far my faverite is the wooly thyme and elfin thyme.

I haven’t been running the trains much this year due to much rainy weather earlier and the heat. We did have the nephews and niece and family out a couple of weeks ago -

Looks good, Brian. What kind of tree is that in the city square?

That’s your standard dwarf english box (buxus sempervirens suffruticosa, $7 at the home depot) that gets trimmed once a year. They are one of the few that will do well in the shade. Here’s a another that’s a year older -

Boy, you must keep the small one really wacked down! Looks good. I’m gonna give it a try…

I lost most of the thyme (and other types of ground cover) I planted last summer. Didn’t like the shade/soil/drought conditions. Hasn’t stopped the weeds though. I’ll have to look for the dwarf english box. My local Lowe’s and Home Depot don’t carry much in dwarf plants or ground covers, so I may have to check the local nurseries.

HJ, you must be spending the entire summer working on the layout. Every week it looks like another big project in the works!

Since I recently had to buy a new cellphone which has a camera feature, I was hoping to use it to post some quickie shots of the layout. Would be a nice suppliment between the much less frequent film shots.

Using the camera feature is pretty easy, and as far as I can tell it takes some pretty good pics. Trouble is, getting them transferred from the phone to the computer is turning out to be a hassle. Drove all over today trying to find a place that sells a simple cable to link the phone to the Mac. The only one I found is at the AT$T store, and they want 25 bucks for it. It shouldn’t cost that much for a short length of cable with a USB plug on each end!

(AT$T also wanted $30 each for phone chargers that plug into a car’s lighter socket. I got mine at Target for $4.99.)

Not too recent…within the last couple months

Brian, what did you make the town centre out of? Looks like asphalt!

Try e-mailing them to your e-mail account. As long as you have tex messaging just go into your address book a type your e-mail address. Usually in the add contacts their is a spot for home, mobile, work and their is one for e-mails.

Dave,

The asphalt topic came up on another thread. I believe the parking lot was done with roofing materials. Someone dumped a whole package of roofing shingles in my parking lot a while back. I took them home to fix the roof on my shed, then saw some of the pictures here. When I turn the pieces over they are essentially flat on the back and perfect width for a two lane road. So I laid some out and they look pretty good, as well as making a nice walkway. I may even try painting some lines, crossings, etc. on the “roadway”.

Update: I found the cable to connect my phone to the computer on Amazon.com, and it includes a CD with software needed to transfer files off the phone. Cost only $6.95. While I was at it, I also ordered a firewire cable to connect my camcorder. That cost a whopping 93 cents.
