Photography & Railfanning

As an outgrowth of my love for railfanning, I’m starting to get into photography in a pretty big way.

The railfan bug bit in 1995 when we took a family train vacation that included Steamtown, the Strassburg RR, RR Museum of PA, Altoona Railroader’s Museum and Horeshoe Curve. A few years later on a return trip to Altoona, we took a side trip to check out the East Broad Top for the first time. I was hooked!

In the summer of 2000 we did our ‘Southwest Tour’ that included a lot of railroads. We started at Durango riding and photographing the D&SNG, then while staying in Sedona we did the Verde Canyon RR. We finished the trip with an Amtrak ride from Flagstaff to Santa Fe and then drove to Chama to ride the Cumbres & Toltec. That fall we spent our first 3-day weekend at EBT, the last time they had three engines in steam for a fall spectacular.

We’ve been back to the EBT every fall since. I started taking train pictures with a 35MM snapshot camera. Somewhere around 2002 I graduated to a pro-sumer SLR-like digital camera (Fuji S700Z) and started working on technique. Yesterday I took delivery of my first digital SLR - A Cannon Rebel Xti with a Tamron 18-250mm lens.

A lot of what I shoot is also shot by others. As a consequence, I end up in a lot of their pictures. Some are pretty prolific internet posters, so a sub-hobby has grown out of this: Finding pictures of me, taking pictures of trains on the internet. I have a pretty good collection - I’ll add a few to this thread when I get home from work.

Breathlessly awaiting pics.

OK, no need to hold your breat any longer  This is a bit like Where’s Waldo? Those who have met me in person will easily figure it out. Others will have to look for the common thread :o

I don’t know about finding you in the pics, but that is one weird looking trolley.
