Hi folks
I’m dropping my land line and going cell-only. Those if you that have my phone number (ends in 8482) will no longer be able to get me on that number. Email me for my cell number.
But you don’t answer your cell!
Haven’t had a land line myself for years. Well, there is one in the motel, but it only rings if I forget to stop in and pay the rent by Friday.
Good luck with that.
Bad idea for those of us in earthquake country, when we had a 6 pointer here last summer, the first thing that was inoperable were the cell phone services, and that was due to massive overloads, let alone any damaged area coverage losses that would occur in a bigger one.

I don’t think it’s a great idea either, nor do I like Cable TV Phone. But I can understand the desire to cut duplicate services. I just hope when you need 911 the call goes to the right cell and they can figure out where you are. The land-line 911 system gives them your exact address.
I think I still have your cell
The only reason I have a land line is so I can have dsl. If it were not for that I would not have a land line. I don’t even answer it when it rings.
Hay Bob what if we never had your number do we get it now?
Landlines still stay active to call 911, so thats not a problem.
I dropped my landline last year, then found out that I couldn’t order a movie from the satellite TV hookup we have. Now I have to jump through a couple of hoops.
Sigh.

With advanced 911 when you use your cell phone to call a dispatch center the cell phone “talks” to the 911 computer. It tells the computer where/who the phone is registered to and it also gives the dispatcher the option to find your exact location, well within 6 feet of your exact location. If the phone location and it’s registered address are a certain distance apart the locate feature is automatic. Without advanced 911 even with a landline the dispatcher has no idea who is calling or where they are at, it is only a direct line for help kinda like the “Bat Phone”.
With cell service being so popular now, 911 has evolved to support those systems as well.
And as stated above, even if your phone is disconnected you still have 911 service. I believe in some states it is illegal for the phone company to disconnect the wire from your home.
I still have a land line thru cable…I pay 14.95 a month thru Vonage…more like a security blanket than anything…when all else fails kinda thingie…cell phones have built-in gps, or was the last movie I watched? You have to program your 911 information with cable phone service…you just build in your zip code into your account information…I can see two cell towers from my house, yet my cell usually doesn’t work from here…when my cable goes out (usually, never) my home calls are routed to my cell…
Gee Bob. No more turning the crank on the ol’ wall phone and asking for “Central” and “Hey Martha (operator) get me an outside line, I wanna call New Yawk”?
Good Luck Bob…
Richard. S. Ya it hard to keep the batt’s. up. But ph. line is free and now have a bigger crank on mine… Oh we have a new oper. on our line. Suzzie…We also went to 4 rings to 1 ring now to…Noel
I have been without a regular landline for a few years now.
I have a reliable cell phone service and a VOIP service which is brilliant.
I have high speed cable broadband anyway and the data allowance easily covers all my VOIP calls.
The VOIP service costs me A$20 a month for which I have free unlimited untimed local and long distance calls all over Australia and to most countries in the World.

MY cell-phone has a built-in GPS repeater…AND it works in US and Canada.
