Phoenix sound in AccuCraft K27....not THIS week

Evenin’, All - just had a reply from my friendly, local Phoenix supplier/installer answering my query about supplying and installing a K27 sound system in my AccuCraft model.

Seems that with the demise of Sierra, and the uncertainty of any form of support, there is a rising demand for the sound system products. Naturally, since I can buy anywhere I like, I was interested in finding out how much it would cost me here in UK.

The figure seems to be, ahem, rather high.

USD$590.00, including tax of course, since nobody is exempt it.

I’ll now be looking at Mr Schreyer’s pages to see what ideas he might have for providing power that does not involve the pathetic and short-lived lead/acid gel batteries used by Sierra.

I have Sierra sound board in one of my 2 truck Shays. Now the battery is bad and need a new one.

Was thinking of two ways to replace it.

  1. Use two 3 volt Lithium batteries.

or

  1. use a rechargeable 9 volt battery. Would this work as is or need to have the voltage dropped to 6 volts?

Use only a 6 volt gel cell as a direct replacement to the gel cell supplied.
The charging circuitry is different for the various chemistries.

Thnak you, Sir, for that advice - I'm getting a fix from a fellow LS-er on this forum wit the whole set of werx - charger wiring and batteries.

Ough, Terry, it seems to me it might be more cost efficient to get a live steamer in the first place… sound included! Best, Zubi PS I am actually vaguely contemplating a K-27 too…

Why would you need a sound card on a live steamer? If you need a bell, go to the chandlery and buy a small one for $30.00 USD.

When I bought MY AccuCraft K-27 there was no live steamer version.

I see…, well, then how about fitting a boiler instead of sound card;-)? Best, Zubi

Then there are some of us who don’t WANT a live steamer.

Yes, Bob, some such people may exist, but Terry is not one of those AFAIK! Best, Zubi
