Phil? Phil who? Oh, fill

Got a dump truck load of screened fill last week, to do a bunch of rr and non-rr work.

First up is the area in the back of the RR. Making this step wider, and up to RR grade, to allow for the wye stub (visible lower left under the leaves) to curve around to the right here and head down the hill.

Next up is the area at the end of Franklin Falls, by the shed. I made the shed floor the same level as Franklin Falls, to allow for a run-in track. I’m also building this area up to allow for a wye.

Filled and re-graded the area I dug out by the old Majestic. The back of this is up to RR grade at the new Majestic here, and also slope into the yard.

There is considerable leftover, so we dumped it here. Will re-grade this area of the yard, and turn it into more garden, instead of grass. And any extra will go back into the RR area in the spring once we see where certain plants come up.

Major upgrades being built. Nice!
Save some of Phil for the settling. :upside_down_face:

That’s why I wanted to get it in place now and build it higher than it needs to be. Let it settle before spring trackwork season.

It looks like good soil !

Its not too bad, sort of a sandy clay with some loam in it too. 2" screened so no big rocks. Next spring I’ll get a load of loam and mix it into the top few inches of this and it should be good.

Phil…egada, Bob…I thought for a moment you were going to suggest that an old faithful member of LSC was contacted by you to see if he was still taking nourishment…
Remember “Phil of Toenail Ridge fame” Have you or anyone else made the effort to say hello to him ?? I have tried but without success…
He did contribute to a lot of great chatter on LSC way back when…from New Zealand…

about a year ago i searched for and found his toenail ridge stories. his site was still up, but no new stories.
re-read them all.
and thanks to Alzheimer light, they were as good as new for me.

He popped up on one of the forums, I think it was this one, less than a year ago, I tried contacting him but got no reply.
I loved his RR and his historical/hysterical presentation of the folks that inhabited it. I have the CD he produced several years ago telling the whole story of the railroad and its odd population. Great fun.

…of course, his full name is “Phil Creer”
