Pettibone Speed Swing

Just about done with this project. All scratch built except for the Lego tires. Any questions? Oh it is further along that this picture indicates.

Great rendition of the original Craig. Will it actually run on the track?

This one is just a static model. Maybe someday I can build a working version. Heck, if I make it powered, why not make the crane powered as well?

Oh crap that just gave me an idea…

Nice job. Keep going.

It is almost done. 90%, just not shown in the photos.

I’ll give a hint, my 3 year old said to me, “It’s muddy Daddy”

To which I replied, “Yep, you are correct”

The cab on your model looks a bit narrow.

Yea, I got one. What the hell is a Pettibone Speed Swing?

Some models have skinner cabs than others, but yah it is a tight fit for a guy (there is one in there). I based my model off a Custom Finishing HO scale kit, so I’m laying blame on that.

Ken,

Short answer, a piece of ugly MOW equipment. I somehow havr an affection for ugly MOW stuff.

Serious answer, it is a small mobile crane that has a boom that rotates 180. They are mostly used to move small pieces of rail, bags of spikes, etc. Pettibone is the name of the company, Speed Swing is the model.

That I could see.

Gotcha!..Thank you for both answers…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

If you that the Speed Swing is ugly…

Ballast regulator, or shapes the ballast profile. I wanted to see how easy/hard it was to take a HO scale model and upscale it to 1/29. Can you keep a secret from Devon?

I might someday build one of these as well.

You certainly have an varied assortment of…things…to choose from.

Well, if it wasn’t a challenge, where would the fun be? I’ve always been intrigued with the MOW stuff. That said, they aren’t high on the modeling priority list at the moment. I mean, I have to save projects for when I retire in 30 years right?

Nice job on an unusual piece of equipment.

I’m always on the lookout at toy stores etc… for construction equipment. I did find a decent front end loader this Christmas that got a dirt and rust bath to take the shine off the plastic. LOL

Todd,

On my wish list someday is one of the rare 1/24 front end loader kits to bash into something MOW like you see crawling along the top of railcars spreading ties.

I got all muddy…

Is that just real mud glued on to the tires??

Nope secret recipe of mud paint plus baking soda. Make as thick or thin as you want.

Awesome!! Very cool project!
