I took this picture a few weeks ago after I started, some tape and an Idea of where this will reside

Arizona campaign laws say that the crooks politicians have 2 weeks after the election to remove signs, I wait a weekend after and clean up my neighborhood of blight. So after testing the fit and size of the building and a plan fully in place work got in the way, and home repairs and other things.

But today I was off and hit it hard trying to get something done

No I have never tasted this brand, but my brother in law Mike brought a bag of cans and this

A Fiskars crimping tool, so now I can do some more roof panels! so I set out and made one piece to use, and installed it and framed it in

back side view, I think this will make a passable roll up door for the warehouse to the rail dock, I decided to just go direct from rail car into the warehouse instead of having a dock between them.

From my junk pile from building my bridge I had all this leftover milk crate parts so I came up with the idea

maybe these can make windows

A little work on the band saw and these might be usefull as windows

trying out different looks. then I started to clean up the frames to cut the holes out for them,… oops

razor blade, meet left index finger and sacrifice to the build gods

this picture actually doesn’t do my dumb move justice, on the side, near the joint where your finger wants to bend and stretch, this is going to take some time to heal. and afterwards while helping wifey prepare dinner I found out this finger does a lot of picking up things like pots and pans and the cut is right where the weight of a pan wants to sit, so We will see how much more I can get done tomorrow.

Now Pete, just because Devon tried to cut his fingers off, doesn’t mean it is a requirement to participate in the Challenge. I like your roll-up door idea.

I kid you not … I have these in my saddle bag for trail rides…

I never leave home without them. I have all but the bailing wire in my car and all of the above in my truck.

You should always use duct tape to bind wounds.

nope. if you wash hands once or twice a day, duct tape tends to fall off all by itself, … after a week or two.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Pete,

I have learned something for future use on I believe every build. Yours included. I would not have thought to make a roll up door that way. I have the tool and I have a pop can or two. So no matter how you feel about your accomplishment, I am glad you posted because not only did you at least jump in but I learned a new trick. Win/win.

Pete that build came out perfectly fine. Background buildings are there to fool the minds eye into belief, they don’t have to be super detailed to accomplish that.

I like the building, Pete. For something thrown together at the last minute, you did a great job. Looks pretty good with the boxcar sitting ready to be loaded/unloaded. add some paint and signage and it will be ready for business.

I’m a fan of facades like yours.

I noticed in your glamor shots that you used hardware clothe to make window grids, I have done the same and have experimented with putting them on the outside of the plexi and the inside, I think I like them on the outside better. I have also painted them to match the trim colour that helps them to blend in a bit but still look good.

I like what you built. It looks like you have more wall to cover so will you be building more ?

Thanks Todd! I added the hardware cloth to the back side of the “windows” after I had glued the plastic glass , I never thought of about painting the cloth before but that is a great idea. I am thinking of adding some more windows so I may remove the hardware cloth and paint it. I went the easy way of putting the glass on by just gluing a big piece over the whole back side. Biggest problem was the lack of time to make it right, it will have to be a far away building. 20 foot rule!!!

i do have more places I can add some I am kind of planning a small town of facades in one area, but will take some time, as I have bigger projects ahead of them.

Here is my entry for the Mik challenge when we all started with the door. You can see the painted hardware clothe cut for window panes. I cut the plexi to size then framed it with a plastic channel that I cut from a 8’ strip of paneling edging that can be found at Home Depot. The clothe once painted the colour of the trim was then glued onto the outside of the glass with a couple of drops.

Update time, I really never got around to finishing the building, but I have been playing with it as time permits,

This is what was turned in to the Challenge … and quite shockingly it didn’t win a thing, being as plain as day and not what my napkin represented as my project

and now that I have done way more work. This will be the close to finished product. Going to add a sign M V Sandoval Co. My brother in law has been a help from a day of moving dirt for the base of the RR to getting the crimping tool and for me and other things, so I think he deserves a building. When I was building this I didnt notice the crimp/fold mark on the wall and the gouge either, but its too late now, I guess I will have to come up with a derailment story for it!

Pete that turned out to be a fine looking structure. Don’t mind the crimp or gouge, they just give the building an aged and used look. Looks just fine from here.
