Large Scale Central

Peter Jones

I just read over on the www.7-8ths.info site that garden railroader and author, Peter Jones, passed away. Many know him for his GR column, “Scribblings on a Workshop Wall”, and his book, “Practical Garden Railways”, I just started reading. I always enjoyed his quirky humor and outside-of-the-box thinking. He will be greatly missed.

I saw that over on GR forums. I always enjoyed his columns. Rene says that his last one will run in the August issue.

Thats really sad, he was a staple in the hobby, I too will greatly miss his articles

Wow, he must have been younger than me., as well What a loss he is to the large scale community in general. The man was an artistic genius, and a VERY fine and gifted watercolourist to boot.

I’ll call Tag Gorton and see if I can get any more details.

Ah, from Tag - pancreatic cancer - he had been unwell for a goodly while it seems and the remission didn’t remit.

A VERY sad day, eh?

He was also a musician. He will be missed. Via con Dios, Amigo.

I’m very sorry to hear that. I loved his columns, he had a unique and charming “voice” as a writer.

Yes very sad!
Cancer’s not nice to anyone!
We will miss his humor.
Sean

I loved his column.
His scenery work was all about creating an atmosphere.
I thought the steel mill he did a while back was great.

Same here, will really miss his writing. Does anyone know how to get an email or address of his family so we can send condolences? Jerry

Jerry,

I would send Rene Schweitzer at GR a message - http://cs.trains.com/trccs/members/Rene-S.aspx
and I’m sure she could forward them.

Holy Cow! I never would have thought. Yes, he was a column I never missed. What a great attitude toward the hobby. His writings are certainly a memorial to his love of the hobby.

A sad day indeed.

My condolences to his family.

To the folks at GR: Publish a collection of his columns. I would buy one, and I’ll bet there are others who will, also.

A sad day.

I really enjoyed his off the wall stuff and was always sucked into reading his articles because of such!
He was an amazing modeler with really neat ideas!
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
