Pearce Rebuild

In keeping with the tradition that an ops session leads to rebuilding something, this year Pearce was a problem. Its been an issue in the past, with a tight curve (that I eased last year), and a grade (which got worse this year). So, it called for a rebuild.

I dug out and filled to make it as level as I could. Widened the curve, and moved the whole thing about six feet closer to the switch off the main. It also provided a good spot for a building I already had.

Here’s the area, not connected to the main yet, but leveled and ballasted with about 250# of aggregate.

Too hot to finish this up today. Maybe this evening Ill connect it to the main.

Not only a great job, considering how hot it is, it’s amazing. I ran inside. We’re going to freeze this weekend! Better working conditions I hope.

Great looking building by the way.

I did all the digging a week or so ago, and got the spline and most of the track down on Saturday. Today was just lining and leveling, and spreading ballast. I need to finish building the retaining wall between the track and the yard, too, but its too hot for mortaring right now.

That’s a nice set up for the mine. Lots of room to work it. Looking great.

We’ll find out how good ya did next TrainOps…But it certainly looks like the “New and Improved” Pearce Yard from the pictures.

So no cliff drop off like in the old design?

Looking very good, Bob. I like all of the changes.

Here’s a shot from TrainOps 2011:

Nice change Bob, That mine looks right at home

Ya only loading one hopper at a time? or ya gonna extend beyond that to make an empties track?

the rebuild looks good, Bob…

He didn’t say it was going to be easy.

One at a time. Story is that the mine was truck hauled, but the new business at Pearce warranted more trackwork to serve Goodson’s Batteries. The mine is working a thin seam of valuable metallurgical coal, and produces JUST ENOUGH to warrant one car every day or so, but the confines of the valley dont allow for a separate track, so they tacked the tipple on the end of the runaround.

Cool!

Rock and ballasting work is done. Ready for a mini ops session tomorrow.

A mini ops session Sunday found no trackwork problems at Pearce.

Ah ha, so, Problem fixed… great…

Bob,

Good to see this fixed. looks like you lowered the whole area and eliminated the grade as well as improving the radius on the curves.
