Passenger car conversions

I don’t know about the various configurations, but I am extremely impressed with the impeccably clean white jacket and the immaculate pressed sheets and pillow case. It’s almost like they took pride in their railroad!

From my delvings the pride was expected in the earlier days. I think of the shine on the locos and the polished inlaid wood works of the cars. You were expected to care for the equipment in your charge, and could lose a job to someone more willing to go the extra mile in giving personal attention to ALL their responsibilities (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Don’t hang too much hope on finding Lucy’s prototype … stage sets only had to be believable, not copies (they’d have to pay for that).

The chair cars that converted to sleeping didn’t need upper windows, no chair up there!

I tend to believe this train of thought. I know what you mean about movies creating credible scenery and though I have seen the arrangement on other old shows/movies I still can’t help but continue the search. And I really appreciate the input I’m receiving on the cars (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Interesting! I think i understand the arrangement…step up into some of the roomettes. Gee what will they think of next?

That was Pullman’s Reputation, the railroads took credit for hiring them.(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Pullman built the cars, supplied the staff and all car supplies. The blankets are treasured; wool with Pullman woven in.

Wow, I’ve been away for bit and missed this thread. Great work David.

Looking good. Got a little lost in the discussion of bars and hookahs (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Are you going to bring this to the show?

Both car bodies will be at the drag and brag Jon. My first contribution(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

John, Thank you for the above reference to chair car. Searching that I found the following info.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeping_car

Pullman porter making an upper berth aboard the B&O Capitol Limited bound for Chicago.

On this picture note the individual curtains for the two bunks and the bunk bed style arrangement.

And on deeper thought after looking at the following picture I realize there was not a permanent wall between the bed sets but walls formed when the seats were down for a bed and the upper bed lowered into position.

Interior of a Pullman car on the Chicago and Alton Railroad, c. 1900. In this photo the car is configured for daytime operation.

Sometimes the info is right in front of us if we only think. Thanks again John for the impetus , I’ll be able to add this design to my fleet(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hey, Hollywood, are these pictures any good for you? I have the Pennsy Passenger and Freight Car Diagrams book, so I an look for something else. Nothing printed has “Chair Car”.

Or this:

Yes and thank you Lou. Both saved(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Finally got to get the first color on the cars.

A few more pics can be found in the article itself. Thanks for looking(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I added a couple new pics showing the color of the cars. Some minor touch up left to be done
