Large Scale Central

PartTwo-POC Operations Day One-15 Photos

Continued from Part One: http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=9653

After much scolding from dispatch engineer Foley brings his train to Coos Bay.

Number 7 and its train pull into the yard as number 3 awaits to depart with a caboose hop to Coquille Jct. to pick up some log loads.

Terry begins his switching duties at Coos Bay.

Meanwhile Number 3 has arrived at Coquille Jct., dropped its caboose and runs around to pick up the waiting log loads.

Number 3 runs around train and hooks up.

Conductor has lit the caboose marker light.

Log train awaits clearance to proceed.

The log train clanks onto Davis Slough trestle at a brisk 15mph.

Number 3 signals its approach to Coos Bay yard limits with a long blast from its whistle.

The log train at rest on its assigned track. “Oh goody! says engineer Foley, more congestion in the middle of my switching!”

Terry checks his switch list.

Terry seems to be enjoying himself as he sorts out the mess. Of course switching here is quite easy. Just ask Bruce. hehe!

Almost finished. All in all a job well done Terry! A great time. 4-1/2 hours counting the photo stops. Number 7’s batteries pooped out at a little over 4 hours of continuous operation and number 3 had to finish the last moves.

Terry looks like he could use a beer…

What a great set of beautiful photos . Is that the Terry from over the big pond ?

It all looks better than ever, Richard. Could be that sun, though.

When I visited you, you said you were going to extend the layout back to the far building. From these pictures, it looks like you have made it. I know that asking if your layout is done is a silly question but, have you completed the current plan? It looks great.

Bill, Bandon is the half way point, about 60% distance actually. Still to be constructed is the southern terminal, Port Orford. This is where the POC's parent company, Old Mill Lbr. Co., has its mill. Also to be included will be another turntable with minimal engine facilities as well as a few small industries and representative town area.

Dennis,
Yes, Terry lives in the U.K. A most fine fellow and dear friend.

Bruce,
I hope you don’t feel discriminated against by the sunny photos. hehehe!

Ken,
Shoot! Terry didn’t have to work that hard. After all I ran the log train myself that took up precious space at Coos Bay while he was switching!

I feel very discriminated against.

I’ll have to figure out a way to get out there again. It’s a rather long drive, though…

Richard,

How did Old #7 get turned for the return trip after Crash put her on the ground?

Hehe! Amen brother!

Actually Terry deadheaded back to the Coos Bay terminal and turned number 7 on the turntable there to make for better pix on the return trip. You know, typical railfan stuff.

Thanks Noel, we had a great time. If you’re ever up this way…

Ric,
It’d be even more fun if you were able to stop by sometime.

I’d love to operate with you guys back there as well as in Fr. Fred’s ballywick but I just don’t travel much anymore.
