Partial photo of a Hawaiian passenger coach powered by Model T F

Hi Guys:

I forgot to post the web link to the photo in the last posting.

Here is a partial photo of a Hawaiian passenger coach powered by Model T Ford.

Does anyone have a link to a complete photo or a line drawing?

Thank you

Norman

That looks like a regular bus body… or a horsecar - so I might have something generic in my files. Edit: I found some stuff. Based on the height, your pic looks more like the horsecars (at least from what I had), but the thing to remember is that Ford didn’t make Model T truck bodies, aftermarket coach builders did. Soooo… If you’re after a 100% accurate model, you might want to contact the local historical society where that thing ran. Anyhoo… Model T bus

Those are some great pics, Mic! Lots of inspiration for modeling.

Hi Mik:

Thank you for the photos. My guess is that Hawaiian Railroad took a motorised horse car and modified it to run on rails.
The RGS Inspection Car No 1 was a model T ford similarly equipped. Apparently is was too tippy. Accucraft produced a model of RGS No. 1 .

I guess the Delton and Aristo Car motor cars are inspired from these motorised horse cars.

That Model T bus #16 is visually beautiful. Not so beautiful for the driver sitting out in the cold and the ride I assume would be rough and bone jarring. Strange how in those days the vehicle operator was left outside in the elements while the passengers rode in comfort. Notice the wood slate bench on the roof. No seat belts of course. The passengers had better on to something to not fall off!

I viewed a commedy Disney film featuring a wealthy Banker who was having trouble dealing with his wife campaigning for females to acquire the right to vote. All of the Victorian architectural beauty of the house was displayed in the film. At the end of the film the banker and his family walked out to the street and boarded a horse drawn railbus similar to your last photo but fancier.

The “Town Hall & West Berkeley” horse car is from the Oakland (California) Railroad. It is now in the collection of the Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR) and is stored at Ardenwood Farms. It is currently on street wheels. There have been a few members who are interested in restoring it to rail operation, but no progress in that direction.

The SPCRR at Ardenwood Farms is an operating 3’ gauge horse drawn railroad that is based on the SPCRR horse drawn freight branch that ran from the mainline trackage along the east side of San Francisco Bay to the town of Newark. See more details here:

Good to see the pictures of some unique equipment!
