Nice rig! I get to see these beasts roll by my work everyday on the B&M mainline to Portland, ME. There are few main lines in the US where you see all the most modern Amtrak, CSX, BNSF, and NS equipment, combined with the varied collection of Pan Am, covering EMD’s finest products…Fp9s, GP9s, GP40s and SD-40-2s Just a side note…the PAR SD45s were rebuilt to Sd-40-2 specs before arrival. Great to see the oddball-powered Sd45s live on. as they definitely look tougher than the Sd-40s.

Hey, it’s pretty cool that you work at a location where Pan Am frequents. I currently live next to the Montana Rail Link tracks in Helena. MT and we get BNSF SD-70’s and Dash 9’s as well as MRL SD-45’s, 70’s and GP 40’s. I have seen one SD 40-2 and on special occasions, on the business train, an Amtrak AMD 103 Genesis. We have also had 4449 through here a few times. But mostly I wanted people to know that Pan Am Railways is a real railroad. Many people I have spoken to are shocked to find out it is real. Even train enthusiasts who have known trains all their life didn’t know of Pan Am Railways existance. I am not up there to railfan it but I would sure love to check it out someday.

Sounds nice! I always liked the Montana Rail Link scheme…as you can tell by my avatar, I have a thing for GPs and SDs with chevron nose stripes.

I’m jealous that you get to see 4449! I’d love to see steam on the Boston and Maine some day, but the logistics are not there yet to support it. Unless Norfolk Southern tours the J-class into Maine, we’ll be waiting a long time. Maybe if Steam Town NHS eventually restores B&M 3713 they would feel inclined to send her my way. For now, I at least get to enjoy the old 1st gen EMDs! One neat thing about Pan Am…their heritage locos are GP-9s painted for the railroads they were orignally purchased for new, one Boston and Maine and a Maine Central…with more to come! PAR likes to use the old EMDs as switchers because they have roots blowers instead of turbos…plus i think they are exempt from much of emissions concerns.

How is this for nose stripes. Yea I like em too. I do hope they restore 3713, that way I could add that video to all my other restoration videos. Strange I am actually not sure if I have good photos of MRL locomotives but I will look and add them to the site if I do. I think I have a few. Incidentally Aristocraft has Montana Rail Link SD-45’s (G scale) in stock on their website for around $455.00, if anyone is interested. In regards to old EMD diesels, I’ve gotta say this; you are lucky to be able to enjoy them. Wish I were there!
