Painting/weathering valve gear/rods?

Anyone have any tips or suggestions for painting/weathering the Walschearts valve gear, siderods, crosshead, etc on my new loco?

I have never done it but I heard Neolube is the right stuff - http://www.micromark.com/NEOLUBE-2-FL-OZ,8383.html

btw - just wanted to be sure you saw the reply to your q? on my blog.

Ray I have had some nice effects on rods using neolube it is graphite suspended in alcohol, and leaves a nice dark, silvery finish. I’ve also used rustoleum burnished bronze spray paint. The downside is you need to remove rods and degrease them then paint and reinstall. Dont’ forget to do screws that hold rods to drivers. Neolube is easiest, but still degrease rods with alcohol. A big plus is that neolube is a lubricant so it wont cause any wear.
