Painting the town in my high dollar booth

Although I own four airbrushes and two compressors, when it comes down to just getting 'er done (to quote Larry the Cable Guy), I slip into my high-dollar, high-tech spray booth. Great ventilation (just open the garage door) and quick cleanup (crumple up the newspapers and throw them into the handy trash can). As for all that other EPA stuff? What’s a little toluene fumes among friends?

BTW, that’s the roof of my old time, country gas station, which the super was threatening to throw into the trash if someone didn’t paint the roof. Done and done.

The setup. For all of you who don’t get a newspaper: I wanna see you use your computer, iPad or iPhone for masking off yer paint project.

The roof(s). Rustoelum red primer looks as good as model paint.

K.I.S.S works every time!

At least mine has wheels. I use the tail gate on my pick up truck…

I like to go the more natural route and use a boulder.

My old Paint booth was actually Ric’s old New Oven cardboard box…

Mine’s a cardboard box too, but it has an exhaust fan and filter! It’s been full of junk for several years and the vent hose got borrowed for the dryer, so now I just use an old hunk of coroplast on top of my utility trailer!

At least you’re sort of indoors.

I paint outdoors. So I have to wait till the weather is good and not too windy.

Yeah, I’ve occasionally painted outside–in the alley between houses–but our usual sea breeze blows the spray all around the place and onto our gray house and fence. Rather than a boulder I use our recycling bin, which is easy to spot on the street because of its distinctive overspray pattern. Not that somebody would want to steal our recycling bin…

A mild day in the great outdoors, a rattle can or two, some old newspaper, and a nearby trashcan: The perfect spray painting combo!

The compressor works well for pin nailing…

i am just using two foam sheets as spraying background.
if the foam starts to melt, i know, that i am using too much paint.

for security i breathe through a filter stick. the kind that combines pressed cottonfiber with sliced tobacco leaves.

I have a airbrush but seem to always use the ol rattle can. I spray outside on a cardboard box and hold my breathe, my projects propped up by bits of scrap wood. I like the basic Walmart cheapo black flat paint, they used to have a nice shade of red but changed it to bright red.
The other day I painted a old boxcar black on the end beams and roof and colonial red on the sides. I didn’t even have to take it apart or mask it.

High tech K.I.S.S. “GET ER DONE” is the only way to fly !

Geesh… What a bunch of layabouts we are!

After all of that, DW looked at the rattle can paint job and said, “Too red. It should be more brown.” Since I’m not about to mess with my airbrush, I guess I’ll be brush painting the roof with Polly Scale Roof Brown.
