Painting rubber wheels?

I’m in the process of detailing and weathering a diecast pickup truck. The soft rubber wheels looked too black and shiny, so I tried painting them with Floquil “Grimy Black”. This looked great on the plastic spare “tire”, but on the rubber the paint refuses to dry. So now instead of shiny black tires, I have gooey, shiny gray tires that smudge everything they touch.

Is there any other paint that will work on these kinds of rubber tires?

That’s interesting. I used either Floquil or ModelMaster paint on these guys without a problem.

but it was mostly a wash than a full paint. They also got acrylic matte clear coat. -Brian

Hmm. The truck I’ve got is the exact same as yours, the red and black '41 Plymouth. Maybe I’ll try cleaning off the Floquil and see if Model Masters works better.

The tires and truck both were weathered with Krylon’s Camouflage colors. Brown(dark), Medium Brown and Desert Tan.
