Painting Acrylic

Anyone with pointers on painting acrylic/plexi/lexan? I’m starting a turntable and would like to make the bridge table out of it.

Might check out what it says on the can of Krylon Fusion.
My neighbor painted some exposed white PVC pipe three years ago and it’s still holding up.

The trick to painting acrylic is the prep work. You need a primer that will adhere and it needs to be cleaned and degreased, moreso than your average prep work. Some paints such as the krylon mentioned above will go directly on.

I go over acrylic with fine steel wool to give the paint some bite, then clean and prep (Like Terry said)

Bondo Primer works very well directly on Acrylic also, as well as Krylon. Choose the color, grey, red or black, according to how bright you want the finish coat to be. The primer adheres quite well and provides a good surface for paint to stick to. I even use it beneath granite texture type paints.

I don’t like Krylon’s new Fusion line of paints at all and look for the regular Krylon paints. Fusion is not made to go over primers or on top of other paints. It does quite well on plastic lawn chairs when sprayed directly on the plastic however.

I ended up scuffing every part pryer to assembly then shot with krylon white primer then painted it with 50+ year old military jeep paint left over from my Willys. I found an un-opened 5gal can at a flea market. Pretty thick and Ahhhhh the fumes! That stuff about lacquer affecting… That stuff about it affecting your… That stuff about… fumes… affecting your brain is a bunch of hogwash. Sure had the munchies.
