Pacific Smoke Problem

On my Aristo Pacific smoke, I get a few laps of the layout and it stops. If I flick the switch off, then back on, then it smokes again for a lap or two. Seems to have plenty of fluid. Any ideas? It is the later smoke unit, not the old one.

Most likely something to do with the circuit board on the smoke unit, RJ sent back about 15 of these for repair and had mixed results when received back.
I have a couple in my GP 40s that are giving me problems brand new out of the box. Navin sent some repair parts but im thinking these are going to be
gutted and used with the new QSI to make them work properly. Train Li does this as well.

Is this the updated smoke unit that came out about the time the SD-45 was released? If it is, that is a well known issue and I think Tom Ruby developed a simple fix. I have one that does that and was going to try and fix it, but somewhere along the line I stopped caring about smoke.

Edit to add - if the MLS Archives hadn’t gone up in smoke you could probably find the original post. Oh well.

I have an extra unit, may try it but I do have a MTH unit also. Guy I got it from made a voltage board for it, so should work fine, if I can fit it in the Pacific.

You should be able to fit the MTH unit in the boiler. I installed one of the TA smoke units in my Mallet. I think these units are similar. Yes it’s a hit and miss on the AC units they either work or they don’t. Later RJD

The MTH unit fit in fine and smokes great. I put a voltage regulator on it so it only gets about 7 volts.
