Ozark Steam Donkey

I am in the process of building one of Ozark Miniatures Steam Donkey’s (Winch Engine kit with Haulback) and am having problems figuring out how the plubming goes. The pictures are not clear and the instructions are confusing. Has anyone built one of these and if so could you kindly post pictures of it?

Cheers

Tim,
I freelanced all the plumbing on mine.
Those parts in the kit are way too small to do anything with. (for me… )
I made the piping out of brass rod, changed the valves, etc.

Yeah…that’s what I am thinking as well. Where would one get other fittings?

Tim, Here are a couple of shots of an AH&D 3 drum that I scratched a few years back. The piping is made mostly of brass rod, electric wire insulation, styrene tube, and dress snaps (valve handles). Some of the larger piping was done by drilling out brass nuts and sliding them on styrene tube then building up the fitting with epoxy. It was done in 1:20 scale and is sitting next to the Ozark model for a size comparison. Good luck on your build. Rick

ok… great… this gives me something to work with. I think I will stick with the small fittings from the Ozark kit. The biggest problem with them is that they need to be cut off which mean only one side has a hole. It is very difficult to get the other side of the fitting smooth and to get a hole started.

Tim,
What I do with those is cut off, file smooth, use a needle to prick a center hole then drill to a given size and insert a brass wire with ACC
and do the same on the connecting piece. The joints don’t have to be perfect because they can be filled with Acc or Epoxy which will never be seen once painted.

Without the wire/rod insert the fitting assembly is very fragile and difficult to handle.

Rick

The plumbing in the first picture seems to explain it all!

Greg

I finished the project today.

Nice build Timmy

Thats a real nice looking donkey. Perfect for a flatcar load because of the great detail.
