Outhouses

Is there a place for an outhouse in your back yard ?

Could it relieve congestion in your house, and keep dirty feet from upsetting SWMBO ?

Could an outhouse double as the dispatchers’ room ?

Surely you at least, have a model of one or three…

Could a permanent three holer, on a large pike, alieviate the need to rent “Porta-poties” for large events ?

(Would Norm feel more comfortable in a permanent outhouse ?) (!!!)

There will be NO primitive relief stations in my back yard…:stuck_out_tongue:

Some inventions are greatly appreciated. Indoor plumbing is one of them. I kind of like a refrigerator too…

The idea is to equip the OH with a refrigerator, if it is wanted or needed. It could also have a laptop PC, if you wanted to keep in touch. A Telephone could be handy too.

When used as a dispatchers’ room; those convienences would be handy…

I have one by my farmhouse. I made it out of clay. Been out there for years now.

I would think a heater would be a wise accessory…

When I was planning my great outdoor layout (before the downsizing and the move to the great indoors), I used to think that an ‘outhouse’ type building would be good idea that would act as a dispatchers control shed, It would act as housing for the powerpack, switch controls, and all the wiring harnesses, ( I was still thinking “big HO laoyout” at the time) It would also be where all the ‘paperwork’ would be given out or turned back in, but the popularity of R/C, and DCC has simplified the track wiring issues to the point with R/C that there is none, maybe switch wiring at most. The idea of walkaround control, hand throwing switches, headset communication, etc, has all but eliminated the need for any sort of centralized dispatchers control shed on even the largest layouts.

Freds idea of a grandios refrigerator container sounds interesting though…

True outhouses that I’ve experienced are not such that you would want to indulge in the contents of a refrigerator. And as for heat…you just hope the boards are close enough together to keep the draft from causing frostbite to certain unmentionable parts of your anatomy. Finer establishments are equipped with either the Sears catalog or corncob…your choice.

We have an outhouse in the backyard that I built many years ago to use when we were involved with Scouts.
i’ve used ir for a number of years for garden tool storage but may move it to the train layout this year. It;s home to our porta john when it’s in use. It’s only for one!

Ahhh but nothing gives atmosphere and makes memories like an outhouse. My grandfather had a three holer and believe me I never forgot it!

Dont show it to Tac Richard, he’ll want to take it home with him. He has a lot of vistors lately and he does nt want them in thehouse, matter of fact he dont want them in the country. Neither do I

I don’t have an outhouse. However I have approx. a 28’ deep X 5’ diameter stacked limestone hole? My basement french drains run into it and it’s about 150yrs old. It is covered with a concrete slab with about a 12"(inch) hole in the center. I really should build an out house? Morally I cannot fill it! It’s one hell of a well built hole!

Outhouse - no thanks!!! My mother’s parents used an outhouse until they moved to town in 1978. Grandpa built-on a bathroom with sink and tub. My grandmother even had a dishwasher but no toilet. His reasoning behind this was simple, “The toilet is the most discusting thing ever invented. Someday people will wake up and realize they are sh*tting in their home”. By the way, the first thing he did when they moved to town (which had a complete proper bathroom) from the farm was - you guessed it - built an outhouse. Bet his neighbors really loved that - hehehe!!!
