Large Scale Central

Out of stock

Im looking at buying a new engine to replace my porter that is on its way out. It seems everything I click on is out of stock. Why is everyone out of stock on a lot of products? Is this typical this time of year. I tried Nicholas smith, St Aubins, Ridge Rd etc…

A few of the items I am looking at are the HLW 2-4-4- forney, the 2-4-0 and I am really tempted to buy the HLW Mogul but the price is stopping me. I think I can get these from wholesale but St Aubins etc… seem to be cheeper. I even called st aubins and they checked with HLW and HLW has nothing in stock. Grrrr figures just when I get some cash I cant get anything.

Another engine Im looking at is the Bachamnn Porter but I am a little afraid of the scale. Will it work with my HLW stuff or will it look too big? Again I cant find anyone with it in stock.

Im trying to keep the prices under 200 for a porter and under 300 for anything else. Im looking for something that will look good and fit with my RR. It seems not many companies make the porters. HLW use to have some nice looking ones but now all they have is the 0-4-0 steam engine with tender. Im not a big fan of that one or the aristo 0-4-0 LGB would work but not for their prices. I really wish Bachmann made a G scale porter like their On30 porters.

What I really would like is a climax but I think they only come in kits. Where can I look for good kits with the engine etc… included.

Since everything seems to be out of stock I decided that I would attempt to build my first dunkirk or climax. I wanted to order the Bachamnn trucks and big suprise no one has them as well. Although wholesale has them I bet they are out of stock (they are known for that) This is really getting annoying.

I hear ya Shawn, when I went looking to buy my HLW 4-4-0, nobody had them, not even Hartland. I ended up with a gently used one. You might have to camp out on fleabay and see what pops up day to day. I think with the economy like it is, they just are not running any production to speak of. The last few months I helped a buddy set up at the huge Wheaton IL show, you wouldnt think we are in a recession, lots of stuff selling, while not many of the large items like locomotives, lots of smaller stuff, people, buildings, inexpensive kits. This goes for any scale, not just G. One of the two local hobby shop has a brand new Bachmann Climax, but it will be at MSRP price, I can promise you that, he doesnt discount anything. Good Luck on your hunt. Mike

Shawn,
Did you check with Robbie at RLD?

Any 1:20.3 locomotive will look too big with your HLW.
Ralph

What about this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-LGB-G-TRAIN-WILD-WEST-STEAM-FORNEY-24251_W0QQitemZ370238861083QQcmdZViewItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item5633f4af1b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

And I’d almost look for a Bachmann 4-4-0, it’s seriously small for 1:20.3 and may work, though it’ll be a bit more delicate than your HLW stuff.

Shawn
there is a hobbie store near me that has a HLW loco in its case. I belive it is new. Would you like me to go check on it for you I could take a few pictures and send them to you. If its what your looking for I can give you the phone number and I’m sure the guy would be willing to work some kind of a deal out with you.
Let me know.

I have a Bachmann 4-4-0 Black Undec avail?, it is tiny, just sold the Climax last week.

the Bachmann Saddletank Porter would work if you could find one. (nice at 1:22.5)

The LGD #50 Diesel is an Amazing running piece of work that could up to now be found for under $180. (though a little big for you?)

Greg E has a LGB Forney that would work as well (Wish I could get it for my rr). (1:2X something)

RLD does have a 4-4-0- $359

Duchess for $291

be patient

Thanks guys. Thats what I was looking for other other sites that I did not know about. Im staying away from e-bay, never was a fan plus I would rather have something new or something from you guys used. I just dont trust e-bay. Im also trying to stay away from any of the 4 wheel trucks because my track is not perfect and 4 wheel trucks tend to jump. Two wheel trucks work as well as no front trucks.
Geoff let me know what HLW that is and price.
Cal: The Bachmann side tank is the 1:20 scale. Im worried it might be too big for my RR. The forney do you know how much he was selling it for. I think it was out of my range but I could be wrong.

I am also toying with the idea of getting the Bachmann trucks and building a climax or Dunkirk. Like Brian did for his RR I have my Bachmann Hauler I could use as parts and a Bachmann flat to put the cab etc… on. Does anyone know of other sites I can get the Bachmann trucks at a good deal. Its the shay trucks.

Thanks for all the responses. You guys opened a few more doors for me. Its strange that all the poular sites are out of stock.

try G Scale Junction too!

If i remember correctly I called them and they too were out. Thanks though

the Saddle Tank was smaller than the current model

Greg want’s 350 for the LGB Forney (A deal), it’s German

Shay trucks are all about the same that I’ve seen?

Shawn,
LGB moguls in unused, as new condition are regularly offered for $300.00 on eBay. A factory sound version will be around $375.00 upwards in as new condition. All that would be required is a five minute lube/oil service and the loco would run for 20 years or more. Hard to beat for the price.

I have a pair of Bachmann Porters, the good generation Sidetanker modified with an LGB saddletank, and a Bmann Saddletanker, both for very reasonable prices, email me.

You just hit one of my dislikes about Wholesale Trains. Too many times I've ordered stuff that shows as being available on the site and when nothing shows up I go to their site and check my orders and just like magic the stuff is backordered. Really used to tick me off. Haven't bought from them for some time now.

I hear ya. I have ordered some things in the past and waited 3 months for it to come in. If I did not call them they would have never told me it was on backorder. The only reason I order fron them is they have good prices on the HLW mini series and flats.

I also found my solution I bought another Porter like mine from vic. It saved me from having to spend more money then I wanted. Although the LGB mogul is a good deal its still more then I really wanted to spend especially for something used. Eventually Im going to buy the Bachmann shay trucks and make a climax or dunkirk. I just have to wait until sept when St Aubins gets them in. Thanks for all your help.

Hey Vic -

Disregard that email I just sent. Looks like Shawn decided to grab the Porter.

Jon,

Shawn wanted an LGB Porter like the one he already has (parts I guess  ), I still have both Bachmann Porters, I have one more LGB Cowtrain Porter I was going to Ebay, let me know if you wanted Bachmann like your email says or if your interested in the LGB Cowtrain.

OK Vic. Email me back with detail$ of the Bachman Porter and the other question and I’ll let you know right away (like when I read my email tonight)

Try Hans at Gold Coast Station, in Ventura, CA.

I saw an LGB Porter from a starter set at Duxbury Green in Duxbury, MA a few weeks ago. Think he wanted around a $100 for it.
