Large Scale Central

Our Devon Sinsley needs your prayers.

They have no idea. There hasn’t been any kind of trauma. I do have Type II diabetes and Parkinson’s and I assumed it was the diabetes, but all three doctors I have seen have said no, they have nothing to do with it. I would like to find out more. I see them next week to finish up the non-emergency treatment that deals with certain “weak” spots. I have had my share of medical issues but this is all totally new to me.

Gregory- sorry to hear about your tear(s), but they can be fixed that is the good thing. Mine happened due to the “stuff happens when you get older” diagnosis, my favorite.

Take care

Jerry

Wow, I’m sorry to hear about your ills, but very glad you are getting good care.

4°F!

You having a heat wave? It was -7°F when I woke up at 0600, here in beautiful Deer Park. At 1000, it’s 20°F, but the mercury thermometer is in the sun. When I shielded it with my hand, the mercury fell like a brick.

Oh, yeah, glad yer feeling better. I’m channeling my inner Drill Instructor, but i have a good filter between him and my keyboard. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Can’t figure out how to tie this to trains but I will comment anyway.

I have been a Type 1 1/2 diabetic since I was diagnosed in 1983. I like my doctors but have been amazed how little they know about diabetes. Research has not kept up with the problem. You never know what diabetes will affect.

I am just careful to keep my diabetes under control to keep the various problems under control.

Home and breathing and generally mobile is a great place and a great way to be.

Yes, isn’t this what it’s come to? What happened? Fer Christ’sake, a great place for me used to be hitting a triple and making two doubles, maybe taking the mound in the ninth if we were, like, say, eight or nine runs down.

Now? Good blood pressure, breathing, generally mobile…and it’s a good day. Ha!

Careful now, me lads. I think Spring is when the young bucks start culling the herd … ‘I will not groan as I walk, I will not groa…Oh gawd I’m wheezing again!!!’(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Holy crap I’ll stop whining now.

Sunday I ended up in the ER with a torn and detached retina in the right eye. Had to travel over an hour each way to Santa Clara for the specialist on-call to freeze the tear and insert a bubble of some gas to reattach the retina. Was told I have to keep my head tilted to the left as much as possible for at least a week. Went down to Santa Clara again on Monday for follow-up and when we got home discovered the heating unit was not working. Froze our butts off but all was good – the repairman was coming Tuesday at 4 to fix it. All we had to handle in between was another simple follow-up with the specialist close by our home. And what does he find? The right eye is improving but there is also a torn retina in the left eye that could detach at any time. So another emergency procedure, this time with laser to fix the tear. The doc said I would see a green light and it might hurt a little. When the first shot hit I nearly jumped out of my chair. I suggested maybe he numb the eye a little and he thought it was a good idea. When he came back in the room I asked him how many laser blasts would there be. “Oh, 3 or 4 hundred.” I thought he was kidding. He. Was. Not.

Yow!!! That sounds awful. I hope and pray the repair holds and the recovery is quick. Scary to think of anything happening to one’s eyesight.

My daughter had the retina laser treatment.

The specialist started by saying this will hurt

She said the pain was something else!

Take it easy …you don’t need that again!

Yep, is a good foundation for working on trains
Which might be a bit inconvenient otherwise.

I am finding out you need to include eyesight as well. I took my 20/20 for granted. Now that I am half blind from my brain cloud modeling is frustrating

This is the first time I’ve ever had any major vision issues, although I have worn glasses since I was 11. The vision in my left eye is still the same but the right eye (the one that detached) is still a bit fuzzy and distorted. The doctor said it might be permanent and I am not happy about that at all. After having been forced to medically retire and finally rediscovering modeling as a passion to now having that threatened is more than frustrating. But I thank God for all the riches I do have and will take this in stride. And with one of those riches out of town this weekend, instead of all the chores I am supposed to be tackling, I think I’ll spend it in the workshop and on the layout …

Gregory I feel you. I am struggling right now as well. I am getting very frustrated at constantly being in pain. I know people have chronic pain and I know people have vision problems. But when you are not used to it there is no solice in it.

Aw man.

Well, I’ll tell you a secret, even when you are used to it, you still aren’t used to it.

Some days it takes active effort to talk myself in to being thankful I can still do as much as I can.

But I make a point to make the effort.

That good advice. I know personally I have been in a funk. I usually don’t get that way but it is all catching up i think. I’ll be good though. I know I am down but not out.

I know the feeling. After three automobile accidents over the years (none of which were my fault!) I know what it is like to be in constant pain. Most of the time I work through it but some days are harder than others

The best treatment I ever received was from the pain management clinic at UC San Francisco. Very holistic and not based on prescription meds. Lately, I discovered mindfulness meditation and that had also been very helpful.

How is Devon doing …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)
