Rodney, wonderful layout… looks great, nice work…

Rodney, how deep does the PVC go? Do you have any trouble with frost heave?

Steve I try to get them in at least 24 ". Frost line around here is 30" I think. First 2 years I had no problems but we did have mild winters. Last spring I had to adjust 1 pole and again this spring I had to adjust a different pole. So I guess it's working OK.

Thanks for the comments. I did a little more over the last few days. The main is glued down and ballasted. I need to make 7 or 8 switches before I can do any more here. I will start on some scenery (concrete mountains) till I get the switches built. I’m trying to work a little bit everyday. This gives me a little break from the working in the shop.

I got the K-28 out and made a few trips around the layout.

Certainly a very expansive railroad Rodney - it looks great and will be quite interesting to operate.

Maybe I missed it but I presume you operate using battery power? An awful lot of track cleaning otherwise. lol

Hey Rodney do you make the switch stands I see attached to your switches or do you buy them from someone?

I too was going to ask where did you get the nice brass switch stands??? I will be needing several for my logging line.

Thanks for any and all information.

I use Llagas Creek and AMS. Those you see are AMS and they are not all brass as it appears.
The main stand is cast in the same metal that their trucks are cast from. The rest is of brass.
It is plated to appear as brass. The work very well so far.
I also have some Caboose Industries O scale ground throws on some. They are cheap, but
they work.

Alan
Yes I use battery power. I don’t even have electricity over there. I have to use a generator when I use
the power tools.

Rodney

Check out Bruce’s GR article on building ground throws. They look great and you can probably build a half dozen for what one AMS throw costs. SDome day I’ll get to them

Bruces's throws are great. I made a few last year. They are easy to make, look great and work nice.

Wow.

Didn’t Bruce have a build thread on here some place for them. I’ve looked for it
but cannot find it now.

Rodney

I don’t think I ever really did a build thread over here. I do have an overview on my website: http://www.jbrr.com/html/switchstands.html

This thread has some details: http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=12687

I have a bunch of pictures if you have any specific questions.

I started that thread. Here it is. http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=12687
The Garden railroad site was a little more detailed. If you need a photo copy e-mail me your address. Also try Bruces web site he has some info there.

Thanks Bruce and Shawn
That is what I wanted.
Rodney

And now Rodney will show us how it’s REALLY done!
