Other Trains Hobby "Ho Gage."

This is some Trains test of our 10’ X 40’ contractors trailer out back. It’s set up with 1 to 24 hr clock with timer for a day and night sorse. Sound around sounds sys. and is model after Truckee by of Donner Pass. So our version is call Little Truckee R.R. Kind of like in the 50ths and 60ths.

This test video is a short one show 5 Sp Black W. on the point and two helper with around 48 car coming in to Little Truckee with a Amtrack.

Andy C. and I operate on an HO layout most Friday nights in the area. It is a model of the Illinois Traction System from St. Louis to East Peoria, Illinois and the date set is 1955. We started about 7 years ago with the first day of Operations being on January 1, 1955. We use car cards and waybills and run a schedule with train orders to represent each 24 hour day on the line. After more than 7 years of most Friday night operations and we are right around the 1st of February, 1955. Sometimes it takes 4 hours or more to get through one 24 hour day.

Ric G. Sounds great…

In 1955 was when I got in to the Ho hobby and boy has a lot of stuff changed now.

We still are track power with block and panels. Yup like you, we use cards and waybill to set up each train. It still a fun hobby, but have been over the yr’s. we are now dumping most of my brass due to… most just don’t run very will like the Athren, Atlas and so on… Even the plastic Eng’s. has as much detail as the brass has.

What is nice is… every so often we go to stuff under the layout that are in boxes to be like Xmas to find stuff you forgot one has. Last count was over 7oo rolling stock and now down to 63 power stuff I think.

Had to Laf. Ric, We have problem with the 1 in 24 hr. clock here to… The room become night time and day time before we can finish making up or break up a train sometimes. LoL Guess our R.R. is losing money due to all of the overtime… hahaha.

Its kind of a tossup up on Ho and Garden R.R. Both have its advantages and disadvantages.

Noel,

The Illinois Terminal Railroad was real big in Illinois and the St. Louis area, so there is history that can be researched. When operating there is the prototypical thoughts as the schedule is something that really happened. AndyC does the same thing as he duplicates the current operations of the Evansville Western. It really adds a flavor that I didn’t know for a long time in the hobby.

As far as car cards and waybills, it adds another flavor to the hobby and research. However, I tried them outside with the large scale version and for us it didn’t work. However, operated on Stan and Debbie Ames layout last year and he had real big laminated cards and waybills and it did work.

Neat. Ric. G. Sounds like you had a lot of fun… That’s the way to run trains if you can.

I also tried the Garden R.R. with cards and had to chase them down, they keep coming off of the clipboards… lol. Never through of using laminated cards and maybe a grease pencil that that might work.

In the Ho trains, we use waybill cards, but I mess them us sometime as I like to change out rolling stock that are in boxes under the layout. I forget to move the cards around or change then when we are showing how the trains run with guest… Been nice if I had a staging yard, but in this office trailer I ran out of room with these 65 ft. of modulars I made up for an ho club I was in yr’s. ago. I would have to start over again.

I guess like everything else. The hobby keeps growing year after year until one has more rolling stock than tracks.

Noel,

You said " Been nice if I had a staging yard, but in this office trailer I ran out of room with these 65 ft. of modulars I made up for an ho club I was in yr’s. ago. "

If you got a siding close to an isle in a yard or even a siding, you can designate it as an interchange and there’s your “Fiddle Yard”. I know what you mean as a “Staging Yard”, but not all model railroads have that luxury.

I’m thinking hard about a “Car Float” being a “Fiddle Yard”.

Ya… neat idea on a Float ( Fiddle Yard.) but where would I put it? lol under the modules is pack full of trains and boxes down each side of the trailer/building… The aisle is only little over 3 foot now and hard to get around big people… Guess store a trains float up side in a storage building… hahahha… Then try to get it up the stairs to the Trailer door…

I just need a larger building… lol.

Space is always a consideration. Every time.

We love this other old Ho train hobby. Nice this time of the year.

We did some moving around on one end of the office trailer to upgrade our upper logging run. Got tired of the Point to Point and had to built a back and forth unit for cont. run. Now we can run two trains at once up there. We are old track power with block and lot of throttles…

We use this Ho layout to play around with animation for the Garden R.R. ideas. So lot of animation on this layout and some not showing due to much to video.

If like to see what we done so far here is some links we just made videos of it.
