OT - Speakerphones

Pardon this off-topic rant but I need to vent…

For the past 20 years I used a Panasonic corded speakerphone which worked great. But all good things come to an end, and it finally died. Since then it’s been a nightmare trying to find a suitable replacement…

First, the selection of corded phones in the local stores is pathetic. I haven’t seen any Panasonics except a couple high-end business phones. I’ve tried a couple other brands (ATT/RadioShack), and both are useless. On the ATT phone the speakerphone doesn’t work at all most of the time, and the mic never works on either brand. And no wonder – they put the mic ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PHONE!

Worse yet, every other phone I’ve seen since has had the same idiotic placement of the mic. What idiot came up with that idea?! Don’t they even bother to test this stuff? IT DOESN’T WORK! No one can hear me on the speakerphone, because the mic is under the freaking phone.

There is a greater selection of phones available online, but none of the product descriptions mention the placement of the mic. Nor do the “reviews”. So it’s difficult to buy a phone online.

Anyone have any suggestions? I’ve gotten to where I avoid using the phone at all anymore, because I have to stop everything I’m doing and just sit there with the stupid handset pressed to my ear.

I have a Panasonic KX-TG6541 Speakerphone, talking caller ID, message, etc. Works great in the speakerphone mode.
It came with a base station and 5 remotes.

John, you gotta remember, you bought it back when Noah was a striker. :P

Ray,

Got this one from Amazon about two months ago. I use the speakerphone all the time-need to take notes and jot down names and numbers. Works great. I have no complaints.

I still have two old crank telephones…why would I need a “Speaking Telephone”…I enjoy taking the time to hold the earpiece to my ear, and speak into the mouthpiece…it reminds me of the simpler times, when there was much less rush, and life was MUCH richer…besides; I dislike hearing people on their speaking telephones…they sound awful…I even have been known to hang up on them…they soon learn to take the time to speak to me without having their minds fastened elsewhere…that’s if they feel I’m worth speaking with…Yes, I’m holding on to a bit of the past, here and there; when change does not mean better or more civilized.

What’s a telephone ?

Hint…a Canadian invented it…!!!

How does this relate to trains? Oh, I guess he wanted to get a call that an “operations” was happening.
