OT/NT Earthquake in Hollis ,Me

4.6…86 miles from here. No big deal compared to the Pacific rim but…pretty cool to see the house wiggle about here.

Yea, felt it here for about 20 seconds. House rattled and groaned, and the dogs looked worried.

Fun fun fun

Supposedly we felt it here too, but once again I failed to notice. I rattle and groan all the time without an earthquake.

The SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING SKY IS FALLING THE SKY IS FALLING

He’s running around like a chicken with his head cut off…

With their bare feet, animals can feel impending quakes and volcanic eruptions through the ground long before we notice anything… So sez my amazing wife, who grew up on a farm, and has a sixth sense about such things.

Yeah all my friends are talking about this on facebook. I didn’t feel anything… though that might be because I live farther up the coast near Acadia National Park.

Why you bothering us with a measly 4.6? Need a 5.5 at least beforus California folk get roused.

I don’t know about earthquakes (I’m in north Florida) but I do love your winking avatar!

Thanks Joe. Funny, I’ve been admiring your Granpappy’s sepiatone…

LOL… Oh,Victor, you are a caution…

Local weather bimbo said (twice) on the 11:00 last night “Earthquakes aren’t popular in New England”. I wonder where she thinks they are popular ???

She was explaining why they don’t visit more often…

That's because in New England, earthquakes (like everyone else) can't get theah from heah.

We have (small) earthquakes around here every so often; people at work discuss them, but I confess I have yet to notice one. (Like J Radder, I creak and crack without the aid of subterranean forces.)

We’ve had a pretty big increase in the number of small tremors around here in the last couple years… but all the officials assure us it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the increase in fracking.

It’s all just a coinkidink and our imaginations. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

And gasoline is cheap, right?

Doug, Its not gasoline they are fracking for, its natural gas, the fracking truth is they’ve fracked so much fracking gas that the price of gas has dropped so fracking low I am amazed any fracking com[panies are still looking for the fracking stuff.

I’ll say it before Bob has to… Caution…

Here in N.W. New Mexico they have been “Fracking” for 50+ years… We haven’t had a quake here in the 35 yrs. i’v lived here. There are over 30,000 wells in this “Basin” I think that the Scare to blame the drilling companies is way over blown, and un-founded. Most fracked wells are only a few thousand feet deep (1500 to 3500) and the quakes come from much deeper down. My son-in-law is a geologist, and a petroleum eng., and owns a Gas production Co. He may be biased tho!
