Ordering Chain Binders from Shapeway

The adventures of my “Shapeways” order Has been moved to its own Topic -

I started this topic in the middle of another posting, thinking it was a more generic discussion. However, Korm is far more advanced in this subject than me and I needed to pursue this adventure in its own space.

I am so amazed by all of this.

Have you Googled “Shapeways”?

I guess it comes down to whatever you can think of.

Just ordered some chain binders. Talking to them about the scales.

I have just ordered some “chain binders” in 1/24 scale… If they arrive in time, I will have them at York for viewing. Very excited to try increasing scale to 1/12, 1/10 or 1/8. Plan to order as soon as I’m satisfied with 1/24 example. Cost under $20.00.

My order came from Shapeways. A little bit of a problem. They are “Chain Binders”, but the wrong style, mechanical instead of ratchet and I’m not sure the right scale. They seem extremely small and fragile. I’m in communication with the company now trying to figure out what went wrong. Stay tuned.

The last day or two has been quite interesting because Shapeways has requested information about the products they sent me and how satisfied I am. That could have been the wrong question to ask.

To start the communications with Shapeways is quite interesting. Their communication format is filled with code and difficult to decipher.

I explained the question to the Customer Service rep and they asked for a photo of the product delivered. Provided the needed picture and the saga continues. I’m beginning to think English is not their first language.

Finally gave up on first order and tried again today with instructions to not produce until they agree to produce in a different scale.

Why yes, I have been accused of being a gluten for punishment.

The sage continues.

I will be keeping an eye in this sage, or saga, whichever. I will be needing some 1:24 snap binders, if I ever get off my lazy behind and finish my flat cars.

It’s to early for sage around here but I do enjoy it with a good cut of fish

This is not the first time I have heard that shapeways is difficult to communicate with. I have no experience with them but they seem to offer a great service but if customer service sucks. I will be interested to see how this goes.

So Shapeways got back to me this morning. They admit for many of them, English is not their first language. They cancelled my latest order and showed me how to get in touch with an individual designer. This is where it sits.

As an example, this is my last correspondence from Shapeways. It has not been condensed or smashed together in any way. This is how it comes, but no highlights or distinguishable seperations.

All these models are designed and put for sale by different designers who opened their own shop via Shapeways. This thus means we can’t put this order on hold and make some changes to the file so we can have a different size printed for you. Look here at over center binders, they appear to be ratchet style.

Michael

They mislabeled the binders. The snap binders are over the center binders, but they call them ratchet binders. And the ratchet binders they call over the center binders.

I prefer a corn binder. But then I prefer corn to just about anything. Especially my sour mash.
