Large Scale Central

Operations suspended on the Juslenville RR

Yep! Winter time is here again, with snowdrifts blocking the main line in several tight spots.

Yesterday two of the crews refused to take service, fearing to be stranded on the high bridge or the dangerous curved trestle.

It looks like operations will only be resumed in spring 2011. Let’s hope for a spell of good weather so that planned works on the yard and main line can be carried out before the end of March!

Frans,
Better you than me
It snowed about 30 miles north of me.
But I did get cold weather.
Ralph

Looks like the operating department needed to get out earlier to keep the line clear. Some one was asleep. He He Later RJD

Wait till Spring. Winter is a great time to run trains. My line stays open all year long. Doesnt matter if I have over a foot of snow. I just clear the line and run. Grab some coffee a watch the trains run or I sit in my living room and watch from inside.

Wind chillhere in the Detroit area was 6 degrees, just a trace of snow, BUT WAY too cold for me !

Then there are those who wait for the snow and the Plow trains to run. Paul

Frans,
You call that snow?
Come out here. At least the 12" is down to 8" now.

It’s true that I shouldn’t complain, compared to what I got at our former home which was only 5 miles away, but higher up the hills.

But track power and snow are not exactly best friends

I used to plow on track power. It worked pretty good using locos with sliders…

But I wanted to go with a heavier loco for plow service that didn’t have sliders, so I ended up using a trail car battery set-up…

EDIT to add 1 Year Ago tomorrow…

I want that high hood Jon and you know it!

Yup. The High Hood with all of the weight makes a great plow pusher, even in severe conditions…
