After getting 6.5 inches of very packed snow the KMRR has suspended all operations until the winds calm down. The line was cleared but blowing snow quickly covers the line up.
that looks familiar; I’ve seen that layout in GR mag yes??
Yes I’d say you have a snow and wind problem. Neat to get ya a rotary plow and then start after wind stops. Later RJD
You need to forget about the layout and the snow, throw a couple logs on the fire, make some hot chocolate for you and your boy, kick back and just relax till the wind dies down and the snow melts…
Now that is not RRing. The fun is playing in the snow. Later RJD

Shawn??? seems like you neeed to built a steam-powered snow blower…
Great idea Andy! That should keep him busy for awhile.
Randy, I thought so
Andy Clarke said:And I need to build a steam powered Ice Melter. We had 4" of snow followed by 2" of rain, then back to freezing temps. The super wet snow has become a solid block of ice. There's no moving it now. Plow extra has been annulled and all RR employees furloughed until the thaw :(

After last nights 40-50 Mph winds the guys had to clear the line out again. Again no trains running until the ice in the rails melts some. Tomorrow forcast is calling for another 4+ inches of snow followed by a week of well below freezing temps. Hopefully trains will be running soon.
Jon thats the only thing that saved me was not getting any freezing rain or rain. Just snow with some sleet.
Now I like that steam powered snowblower idea.
They just updated our forecast from a winter weather “advisory” of scattered freezing drizzle to a Winter storm ““warning””, and snow accumulations of 3-6 inches by 6am Sat morning…
Andy - Just be glad your getting moisture. Probably still not enough, but it’s something.

Looks like another day of snow. So far 1.5 inches have fallen. Looks like the guys will be out clearing the line when the snow stoppes.
… 8-10" of snow on the ground here, all of it has fallen in three very windy batches since Boxing Day. They tell me this weather blew up the Mississippi & Ohio valleys from Texas - now there’s a switch! Here I’m now deep into my list of winter projects: scratchbuilding, maintenance, and upgrading, and have no plans to operate until first thaw, hopefully that’ll be late March - early April. Our Open House is May 26. That’ll be the official opening of our newest trestle, built this year, and installed, too, our pride and joy, but not as yet christened. Looks pretty good with the snow, though, may take a photo later.
We have about a foot of snow total since x-mas Looking down the yard area

You sure there’s a railroad in there, Shawn? Reminds me of the optimistic little fellow who spent all day shovelling you know what from the big pile in back of the barn. When asked why he was doing all that hard work he replied, “There has to be a pony in here somewhere…”
