Operations at Marty's

For a couple of years, we had an “Ops Session” on Sunday morning. Those participating, I think, had fun. But some didn’t want to and voiced that opinion to Marty and we just said it wasn’t worth it.

Can I tell you, that I never ran a train this year without it being an “Ops Session”? It is all in how you think.

Take these cars to the Elevator from the Terminal.

On your way around pick up all cars on the high line.

Everytime you go passed the Table Creek Elevator, move one car forward on the loading track.

Pick these cars up at the Miller Elevator and take them back to the terminal.

Watch out for Carter’s high speed passenger run.

Transfer cars from the outside track’s sidings to the inside track’s siding, put them on Braydon’s train next time around.

Have Skip follow Braydon to act as “Helper Service”, if needed.

Make sure all tracks in the terminal that are occupied are marked with a “blue flag”. Check to see who left what on what track

Where’s Stan?

Is JJ on the track or talking to himself?

All in a day’s operations at Marty’s. What fun!!!

I missed the OPS session this year Ric. I too found out that Marty had received some feedback anti-ops so it wasn’t likely to happen. Given the lack of traffic on SUnday tho I wonder if we couldn’t have arranged something in the afternoon.

I was lucky enough to trade Marty for his turntable and am planning an elevated yard and line more directed at operations than my last outside layout. IS there a track plan you can send me of your timesaver?

You didn’t miss any operating session at Marty’s this year, because there never was one on the agenda…

If you read “Ric’s” posting again, you will realize that he made up his own operating scenerio, as he went around or ran engines on Marty’s layout…

Andre’,

Actually there was a lot of informal operations going on and Ryan participated as I picked up his cars in a couple of places and dropped off cars that were picked up and moved and then took them back to the terminal or another location.

Another good source is googling on “Shunting Puzzles”

Did you get a copy of Nebraska City, Ne. for the Saturday night banquet? If not, or if someone else is interested, do a Google map of Nebraska City. I was quite impressed with the track plan of the UPRR and BNSFRR interchange in the town. Andy and I explored it quite a bit on Sunday evening. There was originally a turntable around 5th St and 6th Corso. Quite a great track plan.

Would certainly be something to build a model of.

folks just don’t know what they are missing when not doing an operating session. That’s what RRs are for. I get dizzy just watching a boring train go round and round. Later RJD

I do some of both.

Wazzat, Tom, get dizzy or...?

Dizzy? Oh, that’s just the meds.

Same here. At the end of the day, when I'm tired, I like to watch a small train do a few loops while I'm getting looped myself. Ops are more fun when I'm sober!
