Large Scale Central

Ongoing thing on eBay

Lately I have noticed on eBay that there are more second hand stores listing train stuff and giving their locations like East Coast or just a small town without mentioning which State ! What do they have to hide ? Many are getting negative feedbacks for overstating the condition of their items or overcharging for shipping. They lack communications and don’t often make good on their errors.

Bottom line. Why do people even bother to bid knowing that have a good chance of having a problem ? Kind of like buying Botchmann engines. I guess people like to take risks.

Of course your version might be different …

“HENCE THE NAME EVIL BAY” It’s like a woman, ya cant’s live with em and ya can’t live with em" hah lol The Regal “or without if ya’s so choose”!!

Thats why I dont bother with e-bay. I could say I have never bought anything from e-bay or even looked on their site.

I disagree somewhat. I have been very successful with ebay, both selling and buying. BUT, as has clearly been defined, you need to be careful. I got in originally buying a few things, then when I decided to move from O scale to G scale, I sold a ton of my Lionel trains. I am very successful buying however, I mostly stay away from big stores, even there a few that are pretty good, Al Kramer comes to mind. But check out their feedback, and watch for gouging on shipping, although shipping costs have really increased. As I pointed out on another forum last week, I stay completely away from Canadian dealers. No personal offense, but it takes too long, and I had trouble getting the correct form of payment once. All that said, I just bought a replacement battery for my pocked PC from Hong Kong, Usually another no no for me. It will take a month to get it.
Just be careful, there are some great deals out there if you hunt for them. Buy safely from me anytime, “Camaro67”.

I’ve been buying train stuff, coins and other whatever items for I’d say 4-5 years now and have to say that I’ve been screwed less than 10 percent of the time. I’ve been screwed by non ebay websites too so it all goes with the good, the bad and the ugly. I buy my toner cartridges on ebay from china and even though they are not name brand they work and seem to last longer even than the overpriced name brand crap costs in the stores locally. Too many bargains and stuff on ebay that you can’t get elswhere.

i to have been very successful on ebay both buying and selling. no complaints from me and I have quite a few transactions to my credit. Of course I also buy and use Bachmann engines Darryl. LOL I guess if you don’t like it then don’t use it.

I'm pretty sure Barry (BBT) loves Bochmann's engines as they keep him working replacing their marvelous drive units.

I just buried my last Bachmann Big Hauler engine that just came back from Bachmann repair alongside one of the curves on my railroad as an antique engine that went off the track 100 years ago. Thats after I painted it in rust. Looks good there with just the cab sticking out of the dirt. My boy dog already watered it once. Last Big Hauler I'll ever have.

In that case you better place a monument right next to it, too.

Hey, I got one of 'em wrecked out on my layout, too!
Funny thing is, after some of my “friends” drop by to run, there’s usually a part missing off of it.

Yeah JB, funny how magnetic those plastic parts can be, eh!?!

Ancillary to railroad scenery are vehicles, which I have very successfully acquired on eBay. But, ya’ gott’a find those individuals that have presented good pics. I research values elsewhere, then deduct the shipping costs as shown,
figuring a ‘max’ bid value to offer, usually not 'til the last moments. I have had absolutely …zero…bad experien-ces. Rule ONE, though, …stay away from electro-mechanical stuff !
