Large Scale Central

One off the Bucket List

Last Saturday my wife and I went to the Tivoli Theater in downtown Chattanooga Tennessee.

They showed the entire “The General” movie with Buster Keaton, along with the traditional intermission.

What made it so special is they used the 90 year old restored majestic whurlitzer organ with all its spender for the entire movie.

To see it all as it was originally done in the theater, movie and music was an experience to remember.

The entire theater applauded for 5 minutes after ward.

Check this one off my list.

October will the 1925 silent movie “The Phantom of the Opera” with Lon Chaney.

Got to see that one also with the majestic whurlitzer.

The old Wanamaker’s Dept. store in Center City, Philadelphia, is renowned for it’s pipe organ. When I was a kid we used to go into Center City at Christmas to visit all the old Departments stores that used to be there. Wanamakers was the highlight with it’s organ playing along with it’s light and fountain show. So I know what you mean about it being “special”.

The South Hills Theater, near where I live had a nice pipe organ. I loved to hear it when a expert organist played it. Since the building has been repurposed, I doubt the organ is still there. I truly hope someone relocated it. I would hate to think a rare gem like that ended up being scrapped.

There also was one in the auditorium of the high school I went to. After all the remodeling and rearranging that went on there, I wonder if that one is still there.

My check was to ride the Cab of Hamond Lumber no.17 on the Mt. Rainier Scenic RR the other day! Helps when the Fireman, Engineer/ Boiler maker is a friend!
