I just repainted it to suit my needs. Here’s the result
Great job.
Looks great.

Brain, what paint color/brand did you use?
Thats NICE
Thanks guys,
Mark, I used Krylon primer, then Krylon Clear Gloss prior to decal application, then followed that with Krylon Clear Matte to seal everything.
Brian,
That car looks mighty good! How UV resistant is the clear matte from Krylon?
Dear Brian,
Nice job. Beautiful paint/lettering.
Questions:
I assume 1:29 scale.
Make and model # of boxcar? Any other mods, such as trucks, couplers, or detail parts?
The couplers look body mounted. Did the model come that way?
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Joe Satnik
Thanks again guys,
Hans-Joerg,
It claims to be UV resistant…to what degree I don’t know…I’ve only been in this game less than 2 years. Maybe someone with more experience can weigh in on this.
Joe,
Yes, 1/29th scale. The car is a stock USA Trains 50’ boxcar. They make 3 styles, single door, double door, and a combo plug and sliding door. No undecorated cars are available (unfortunately). The cars come very nicely detailed in my opinion. The only modification I made (besides repainting) was to mount Kadee #1 couplers to the body of the car. They come with truck mounted, oversized couplers standard - the coupler must be cut-off the trucks. The trucks come with steel wheels (nice).
Hope this helps.
If it is Krylon’s UV resistant matte or clear, they are both VERY UV resistant. I have used both, prefer the matte for most applications, and have left cars outside all summer without any noticeable color degradation.
That said, I shoot all my stuff each year with another coat of the stuff, or at least that is my goal.
