once upon a time in Romania there was founded an area called “Siebenbürgen”
(i mention that for a certain member, who is in love with Umlouts)
to the significance of that word, it can either come from “sieben Burgen” (strongholds)
and leads us to Vlad the second Dragul (dragonlord) - nicknamed “the Impaler”, who fought the turks. some folktales called him “Count Dracula” and mentioned an aversion against garlic.
for the more faint of heart, Siebenbürgen also could refer to sieben Bergen (seven mountains)
what would lead us to the origen of the stories of a certain princess Snowwhite…
well once upon a later time in 1910, to be exact, there was built a narrow gauge railway about 19 miles long.
in the year anno domini 2001 this railway was closed down.
but because this would be no happy end, the story goes on!
there was founded a group to preserve this railroad.
if i decifred the romanian texts more or less correctly, they have restored at least one station, and reconditioned about four and a half mile of track.
using that track for touristic joyrides. two cars behind a small diesel engine.
BUT - every second month they have one weekend, where the diesel is replaced by a real locomotive!
yesterday counts to one such weekend.
and yesterday my daughter and SiL were there.
i received some pics and some (very) short videos.
only info they could give me, was that the little steamer was fabricated in Leeds, England.
here they are:
here a link to the website. some english, much romanish, but translated pics.
that’s all, folks
