On Veterans / Remembrance / Armistice Day 2024

To All Who Wore Their Country’s Cloth:

Thank you for dedicating years of your life to the service of your Nation. Oldest Son and I did our part by decorating graves of your brothers (and two of your sisters!) lying at rest in Oahu Cemetery who have served Freedom’s cause from 1861 to the present. Civics begins at home, and seeing the unbroken string of service for a century and a half is a powerful teaching tool that reinforces the virtue of service that so many on this site have demonstrated.

As a fellow veteran, a citizen, a free man, and a parent, thank you for your time in the ranks, in the air, and at sea. Your service - and your example - are appreciated.

Sincerely,

Eric

My favorite tale involves my great uncle…he was 15 when his father took him to the Army recruiting station and swore he was old enough to serve (I wish I knew THIS story)…
Anyway on November 11, 1918 he was sent out as a messenger with two others. A shell hits them, killed the other two and my uncle lay on the battlefield for several days before they got to him. Ended up with a silver plate in his head. By WWII, he was a Marine in China who had to give his parole to the Japanese to get out of Shanghai where he was the QuarterMaster for the 4th Marines.
