Large Scale Central

On this day

On this day…
1872 – American entrepreneur and engineer George Westinghouse patented the air brake for trains to stop more reliably.

He was interested in getting railroaders off the roof of the moving trains.

And there was much rejoicing!

…and some of the railroads had to be dragged kicking and screaming to adopt them.

What happened on this date back in 1893, on Toenail Ridge ?

We all are waiting to hear, or is it a big secret !!!

No secret, just the usual, Bart got beat for being his usual pain in the bum, Tiny slept in the caboose on the way to Rowell, Ken tried to quit smoking again, that rotten Cotton shortchanged his customers at the General store, Florence Golightly breathed a sigh of relief that she hadn’t fallen pregnant this month, Mary-Jo Pears lit the oven to bake some of her fantastic cakes, Rev. Jeremiah Little continued as his usual prying nosey pain-in-the-arse…just a normal day

Well, they could have been British and continued with unbraked, loose-coupled goods (freight) wagons for another 80 years or so. (Yes, they had handbrakes, for what they were worth, but continuous braking on all vehicles arrived very late in the day)
