OmniModels Privacy Email

I received an email yesterday April 5th from OmniModels informing me that their parent company, Hobbico, declared bankruptcy. The Bankruptcy Court has approved the sale of Hobbico’s RC business to Horizon Hobby, LLC.

As part of the sale, Horizon Hobby is purchasing OmniModels’ customer databases. The OmniModels Privacy Policy provides that the company will not share any personally identifiable information with any third party without your consent. Under this Privacy Policy, you have the right to opt-out of the sale and the transfer of your personal information to Horizon Hobby, and of receiving future e-mail or mail communications from Horizon Hobby. You may elect to opt out by any of the following methods:

Your request to opt out must be received no later than April 6, 2018.

Did anyone else get this email? Why would I have received it on April 5th if I only had one day to respond? Is this a scam email?

I received the same e-mail. Don’t believe it’s a scam. I agree it’s short notice but at least they are notifying us. Most don’t.

I also received that email and chose to opt out / unsubscribe. I had ordered one item from them quite a while ago and it appears legitimate to me. My purchase was through PayPal so I feel “relatively” safe that they don’t have much personal information other than my email and shipping address.

Mark, I am a customer of Tower Hobbies and received the same email. Tower Hobbies is one of the RC businesses whose parent company is Hobbico and, according to my email, will also be sold to Horizon Hobby, LLC. So with all of this I guess it sounds legit. But I agree with you. One day to respond does seem like a rather short period of time in which to respond. I think that I will opt to do nothing just in case it could be a scam email.

Well, I finally got the email today (7th) stating I must reply by April 6th.

I’m always suspicious of emails that start out:

Dear Valued Customer:

I trashed it; if they don’t know my name there doesn’t seem to be much of a need to opt out.

But Bruce, you are a valued customer, it says so. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I also received it today from Tower Hobbies, with the respond by date of April 6. I’ve never purchased from them, but evidently I’m on their mailing list, as I get weekly sale ads from them.
