With Aristo closing down, I am wondering if anyone knows about a replacement motor for the possible
1st generation Aristo 0-4-0. I emailed Tate & he mentioned that the older motors don’t work with the newer wheel sets as the gear on the newer wheel set doesn’t mesh with the gear on the older motor?
The same motor by Mabuchi is used in the older Aristo 0-4-0, the Hartland Mack and the Bachmann 4-6-0.
Mabuchi RS-385PH. It is on the Mabuchi website but the stock motor does not have a long shaft so no use as a replacement. They were made to slightly different specs and shaft length for different manufacturers.
The Hartland Mack engine is almost the same wheelbase (a few mm wider) and has the same brass worm gears as the older Aristo 0-4-0. The worms are long enough so the slight wheelbase difference may not be a problem but the worms could be pressed closer anyway. You may have to shorten the shaft ends a little for it to fit into the Aristo 0-4-0.
Hartland may be your best bet for the replacement motor.

I would try a Mack motor straight from the model without mods, I looked at one of my HLWs and compared it side by side withe bum motor I pulled from my switcher , there may be a slight difference (mms) but based on my observation, visually they are virtually identical. At least close enough you should be able to do a swap. I was able to get replacements for my AC through a fellow LSer, but AC themselves says they are now gone forever thru them. At least thru HLW you should be able to order replacements based on the Mack part#. Beats trying to find AC parts.
