Here’s a 1937 photo of the Zephr in La Crosse, Wisc. Maybe all my crossings won’t say Railroad Crossing!
I’ve always wanted to build the Billups neon crossing signal, myself
I should make that for my Zephyr to go by.
Maybe we get that out and run it on the West Coast, oh wait a minute we have AMTrack! It just can’t go 90 MPH on the ill maintained trackage! Too bad. How ever great find, interesting what they could do in the 1930’s, gee that’s when I was born!

Naw, that would probably offend someone’s delicate sensibilities – “too frightening for the kiddies” – and undoubtedly lead to a lawsuit for causing acute mental trauma, ferrocarrilophobia and digestive dysfunction.
Bob,
You might try machining the lettering into a piece of clear acrylic, paint the surface black and edge light the sign. It is not perfect, but does a fair job of representing neon. The trick here is the CNC to do the machining. Looks like a cool project tho.

That Billups sign certainly gets your attention!
