Large Scale Central

Old member (well , it looks it)

Take the title as you will , but some of you may recall that I was a regular nuisance here in the dim and distant past . Well , it seems so .

Firstly , a Happy Anniversary of your departure from the Respected Group of UK Colonies .

You didn’t do too badly on your own I suppose .

Secondly and Very Importantly , I would crave your attention to a little tale that may warm the cockles of your heart .

My Son Martyn is in hospital with cancer and has already had ops to try to get rid of it .

In order to keep him in touch with the Real World , I have ensured that he gets a regular dose of model magazines . He is aged 45 and is now capable of reading , so much so that he found an advert for something he has coveted for a long time from The Train Department , a USA Trader in all things 7/8 scale .

Remember that name , The Train Department . Look it up , thetraindepartment.

The Gentleman who runs it is named Jay .

When I asked if Jay could supply these items to cheer up my horizontal Son , he moved heaven and earth to accede to my request for a speedy despatch of the items .

It may cause Jay minor embarrassment if I go into details , but suffice it to say that what he did was above and beyond what one expects from a dealer .

There is decency and thought for others in this world after all .

So I would like to publicly thank Jay and thoroughly recommend that you do business with him .

Thank you for your attention .

Mike (in sunny England)

Well I just started dealing with Jay, And he seems to be a real stand up guy. Wishing your son a speedy recovery. Regards, Ron

Mike, Nice to see you posting again…

Best wishes for your son and your family…

Thank you, Mike, for passing on this good news to us all. I hear that not only is your son, on the mend, but you are doing better too.

Fred

Martyn’s getting prayers from Toronto…

Welcome back, Mike. Sending prayers from Deer Park, too.

Good on ye, Jay!

Had to check out the Google Map location of yours. Great Street View shot with the mattresses by the driveway.

…where visitors sleep after the third day. :frowning:

Your boy is very close to my age…so as a fellow model railroader my thoughts are with you and your family

Thanks for the kind thoughts chaps .

One of the major problems with cancer is that we don’t know enough about it because we don’t talk about it .

Other diseases , we make fun of and joke about , but The Big C is off limits for humour . Unless , that is , your environment is very mature . When Martyn went in to work at the local RAF base after his first op , his staff there had made him a present of a prosthetic testicle (actually a chocolate Easter Egg ) , housed in a plastic bag to wear round his waist .

That approach worked wonders for his morale , but can only be done in a close knit community such as the Armed Forces .

Talking about it had a couple of his blokes attending the doctor because of worrying lumps , fortunately not serious . It was only because Martyn’s wife has had cancer that he went to the medics , just in time apparently ; even so , the cancer had spread and is the very devil to kill off .

So may I suggest to you all , take a closer interest in any lumps or bumps which appear ,

most of the time it will be nothing , but the odd ones can be killers .

Take care , everyone , so that you can live to enjoy your trains
