Old Cars

My other major hobby is old cars. Over the years I’ve had a number of interesting old and not so old cars.

This is a 1931 Briggs Body, SW Town Sedan, Model A Ford. I’ve had this car since 1954. My Grandfather bought the Sedan in 1933 from its original owner. At age 14, in 1954, Grandfather gave me the car. It’s now a member of the family. Over the years I’ve owned five other Model A Fords, a 36 Dodge, three 49-50 shoebox Fords, six 65-66 Mustangs to include a 65 Mustang GT Convertible. I also have a 1965 Chrysler 300 4dr HT. This car was purchased new by my father during July of 1965. This car has 49,000 miles. It is all original with exception of tires, battery, and exhaust system. Three years ago the air conditioning was changed over to R-134 with a new compressor and condensor. This is the interstate crusier. Sure don’t have to be concerned about keeping up with traffic. The 300 will pass anything but a gas station.

Beautiful cars!!! I have an older car, but it’s not a classis like yours are - it’s a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 380SL, Cali-spec, with only 68,000 on the clock. tac www.ovgrs.org

Here is one of my other hobbies. The Corvette I have had for 38 years. Its not all stock under the hood, but I like it that way. It has been on the dyno w/402hp at the rear wheels. The other is a stock 1962 Pontiac Catalina 421 Tri Power bench seat 4 speed, 410 posi. It turned 113.00mph 11.850ET @ Rt66 Dragstrip on street tires. http://www.lscdata.com/users/northern/_forumfiles/1962 421 Catalina.JPG

Wish I had my '73 Charger SE back… Plum Crazy and white with a 440 and a pistol grip 4 speed (Yes, I know Chrysler didn’t offer the 440 with a 4 speed in '73, lol. I built it up myself from a 318 auto car), reworked suspension for better handling, and the obligatory retro bumble bee stripe. mid 14’s, 150+ mph top end, and still got 18mpg when you didn’t beat on it… The only real prob with the car was that every punk in mommy’s 4 door Lumina wanted you to race, and the cops would pull you over just so they could look under the hood.

My now ex-wife made me get rid of it a couple years after we got married…maybe should have kept the car and traded HER in sooner.

My dad still has a partially restored '42 Dodge coupe. he kind of lost interest 20 some odd years ago when he found out that having that massive grille re-chromed would have cost more than the finished car was worth.

Nice cars.

Well here’s my entry into this post, and its for sale too! If interested get ahold of me! Listed in classifieds here under miscellaneous. May take partial trade of live steam or expensive “Big Boy Locos”. The Regalhttp://

Hence the term we use to decribe the green/yellow/orange of the BNSF livery - 'warpumpkin'.

Hopefully with the timing chain update, the early 380 USDM spec Mercs (W107 and W26) had single row chains…no good. The update was the twin row, as on the German spec cars. The single row chain was an attempt to improve economy. Yes, you saved gas, but killed motors when the chains went bad and piston met valve…
