Ok... next question. What is this?

I am curious as to what the square plug is for on the bottom of the barrell and the hole in the bottom of the grease can that comes with the Shay and the other Bachmann logging locos?

Thanks

To fit into a square mount.

These are ambidextrous, if you will, you can use the pin as-is, push it into a round hole, or trim the peg to round, or cut it off, or whatever.
These things are like left-over, overrun bits thrown into a bag.

My 3-truck came with (and others have reported) a black hand-car drawbar.

I figured they were meant to fit/plug into something, but I’ll be damned if I can see anyting on the new Shay where they are meant to go. And yes, I was trying to figure out what this was?

And these

First photo is the black handcar drawbar.
Second are rerailing frogs.

In all these years of Shays, I have yet to find any place that accepts that square mount.
That said, most of this stuff is from all sorts of sources, and it’s put-it-where-you-want-it.

I picked up a Climax a couple of months ago for parts.
Some MORON decided that God’s gift to the hobby was super-glue.

He flooded the running boards, and laid handfuls of these “bits” in it, did the same to the cab floor, pilot beams, and top of tender shell.

Just try to be neat!

What would be good then to fix these on?

I use contact cement, (aka “gorilla snot”, sold as “Welder” in the adhesive section at Wally Wurld)…It holds rather well, but can be scraped off if need be…just use it sparingly

Those black “Things”, are “Rerailers” Most locos carried them for rerailing anything that went “On the ground”. LGB put them on the old mogul tender…they were yellow plastic.

Hang one on each side of the Shay…just form “Hooks” out of thin brass rod, and hook them on to the loco . Look for pictures of Shays in action and note where they hung the durn things.

That drawbar may be a second drawbar for the third truck…I thought I heard that they gave you two. One longer than the other. Dave Goodson should be able to tell you.

That thingy on the grease pail is to enable you to attach it to any place you care to by drilling a hole and inserting a peg, which you have already inserted the other end into the pail.

I use hot glue to mound the do hickies !!
Pops of instead of breaking!
And glue just peals off!
