Oil Pump Find!

Found this neat, all metal oil pump(except for the wooden base) at a used store near here. They thought maybe it was an old shop project? Was looking for records for my jukebox(found some!) but this really caught my eye. Motor does not work-not a big deal. Giving some thought to a solar cell setup so it would run all day? Or might need a stronger motor, using some big O rings, but they are pretty tight, will see if one of my 12v motors will move it.

having fun! Jerry

I lubed everything up and got the motor going. Pulls about 5 volts, so will probably use batteries. I’ll put them in the oil tank, Jim Carter did that with his. O rings are a bit tight though, got the biggest True Value had, anyone have a source for drive belts? Having fun! Jerry

You might try some electronics supply places for the belts. Old turntables and tape recorders used them. Whether they’d still be available is another story…

Quite a few online, I discovered. Ditching one of our old VCR’s, will tear into it for motors(used one on the one cylinder shay) and belts/screws.

I found some O rings at NAPA for the oil pump. They worked fine. Made a cover for the electric motor. Plan to have an oil tank, made from a CD stack cover and base, to hold the 6 volt battery-that seems to work fine. Have an gel cell I no longer use. Spring project!

Cool find!

I imagine whoever made it would be delighted to see it pumping oil in your garden.
